Powering a HOB P-51 .19-.20

Rudderman has given me some Nicads and some other .05 stuff, and I was thinking why not run the plane direct drive .05 with 7x1200 SCRs? Its going to be like a 2 pound plane,AUW,so why not? 8x4?

Give me some ideas. I'm not going the Speed 400 route on a 44" 2 pound plane,so would direct drive do it?

Hi KM
I kitbashed one of these a few years ago and it flew great. The setup was (I still have the plane) Goldberg .05 can, Futaba receiver with built-in SC, 2 small servos(aileron & elevator) Grish 8-4 nylon prop, Goldberg spinner, no landing gear, 6 cell sub-c's.I made a hatch on the underside of the nose for battery removal. It was quite fast with this setup and looked great doing Victory rolls and high speed passes.I plan to refit it with MM motor and lighter battery, better prop, SC etc.
You will enjoy flying this neat version of the venerable P-51.

So it would have plenty of power with this setup? Great!

My friend is near completing his P-51. He is running a Graupner sp480BB motor on a Graupner 3.4.5:1 inline gearbox spinning an 11x7 inch prop. I believe he is going to be using 8x1250 packs.

Well, my 42" Jug has a 3.5:1 geared Maggie Mayhem motor on 10 1250's, and all I can say is WOW! You wanna climb, point in skyward. Two numbers: 300 watts, 3 lbs. Nuff said.
