your "old fashion" e-birds

too many EPS,EPP,EPO things in the hobby world now
missing the 'OLD FASHION' planes built in 70' or 80's
wondering..................:
any possibility to show us your planes you have built from BALSA KITS in the early days?
EP converted from old GP would be nice and....still flying now
cheers
Sam

Great Planes Trainer .40 my dad built in the late 80's converted to electric 2 years ago by me.

After the conversion.

An action shot.

Lots of threads from the good old days of early brushless conversions of glow powered models, here are just one example -funnily enough I've been corresponding with a fellow RC Groups member about the funfighters and see that they are being re-released, modified for electi power now, which is great news

Cambrian Bf109E funfighter - flew originally on an Enya .25SS, but converted to AXI 2820/10 power about a decade ago.

Here's the Emil, after one of her mishaps -showing what a tough old bird the Cambrian funfighter can be - all fixed now though

Body is an original Tower Trainer from the late 90's, Wing is from a Midwest Malibu 40 built around 1990... half of the wing and both ailerons are original.

Scratch built 86" Miss Delaware designed by Steve Kowalik in 1936 with update. I cobbled up a dummy Brown Jr. from wood to cover electric motor and to give her the right profile.
She also has two nose sections and can be switched to an ignition engine with 4 bolts and two wire connections to fly SAM Brown Jr Class.

Lanzo airborne

This year I built an electric powered Lanzo airborne 1000 from a Bob Holman short kit. It flies like a dream and is more than capable of 20+ minute flights with a thermal or two. Covered with transparent ultra cote, it really brings back the "early days" of flying. Some of the best times are sitting in the shade and passing the tx around so other flyers can enjoy the fun of a vintage airplane. Bob has a number of these designs in short kit form and there's enough time right now to build one for this coming summer's flying. Lee

Here's a scratch-built Midwest Sniffer free flight (@ late 1950s) converted to electric. It was one of the first models I built from a kit, and it flew away on its maiden flight after an extended motor run. Fortunately, it was recovered on school grounds about a mile downwind. The RC version flies nicely at slow speed with very little input required.
