Slow Stick Wing reinforcement braces
Hello folks!
I saw that many of you were having problems replacing the alluminum dihedral brace for the LE and TE of the GWS Slow Stick, some of you avoiding it entirely, so having made a set for myself and having left-over tubing, I cut up some more to sell for a few bucks. Remember, this is a must modification if you don't want your wings to fold! Most people make theirs out of brass, I make them from stainless steel, which is a lot harder to find, more expensive, and a a ton stronger! Stainless has twice the Module of Elasticity over Brass and has a Tensile strength 5/3 that of brass. Despite this, Stainless even weighs slightly less! You can read more about my braces here. So once the folks I sent them out to get them I'd like to hear what you guys think! Thanks! -Michael Last edited by aeropenguin; Mar 29, 2004 at 10:44 PM. |

I got two sets for my two wings. I tried.... so don't expect any discounts from this innovative supplier. However, I wish I had these when I first assembled my GWS Slow Stik wings. If you have a brushless stick; just do it!
![]() Sure you could find tubing and do it yourself, but the real trick is bending the right curve without crimping the tube and reducing the strength. I've posted pictures after surgery with the extra set on top of the re-taped wing. Last edited by sargentw; Mar 17, 2004 at 08:38 PM. |

Here is the Stik hang'n in the hangar with the other wing
![]() Note the EPS-350C - C (5.33:1) Power System from w.balsapr.com using a EP1047 prop. The end of stick/mount is bent 3 degrees down and to the right and develops 470g of thrust. Wow!!! Last edited by sargentw; Mar 17, 2004 at 08:35 PM. |

I have already folded my aluminum and brass braces. I got the stainless steel ones today and put them on. I just got back from flying and they work great no problems at all. My slow stick is at 22oz AUW and I was doing power dives with nothing wrong.

I got my set of braces from Aeropenguin about two weeks ago and also went with a brushless setup on my SS just last week. The braces work great with no appreciable increase in the weight. Thanks Michael!!

Put mine on my brushless SS with CF rods. Can we say stiff. I like it. No more flutter.
Thanks Steve |

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm glad that they're working out for ya and are holding up to brushless dives, and other tests. I do lots of power dives and everything and have never experienced flutter in any situation. I do my best...
Mike123, I sell them in brass too, check out the site(click on the "www" button under this post)... they're a few bucks cheaper. But the stainless ones are a lot stronger... Thanks! And most importantly, Spread The Word! -Michael |

I haven't heard of any that do, mine doesn't... neither does Home Depot or Orchard Supply Harware (OSH), but it might be worth checking.
If you do make it yourself I can help out if you've got questions... -Michael |

I am putting one up on ebay for an honest evaluation of exactly how much you guys are willing to pay for this. If it sells for $3, then so be it, but just a test to see what'll happen. I can email the people who didn't win and offer the standard $10 that I am offering you guys.
Thanks! -Michael |

Got my braces in the mail and am now putting together my first SS (one of many I am sure) and they are definetly better than the stock aluminum ones.
Thanks Aeropenguin! You should sell many more of these! Spaz |

brass tubing
A well equiped hardware or hobby shop should have a K&S display of various metal tubes, rods, angles etc. The size I use is round brass tube 5/32" , stock # 128. CF rods .125" fit perfectly.
I'm sure the stainless steel are stronger. I might try them if the brass tubes give out |
