What is a good sport plane for an Astro 050 brushless?
I have an astro brushless 050 that i was going to use on a plane but I think that I am going to use the manufacture recommended motor instead. And as I am always preparing for the future (and turning the future into the present as fast as I can) I want to plan for a good sport plane that I would get vertical performance from.
What are your thoughts?

What batteries do you want to use?
What cell count do you want? What amount of thrust does the o5 put out on your favorite setup?? I would reccomend the House of balsa p-51 mustang, and if the 05 has more then 48 oz of thrust, your laughing <- like this!!! |

Ok, here it is on 10 x2400 mah with a 13x6 APC electric prop it puts out 6,700 rpm with 31amps at 340 watts.
I'd love to get the Estrellita by Icare but I don't think this is the right motor. But I am open to coversions. |

WOW!!! Mine has only 100 pounds and it does 60 foot loops (05 cobalt). IT is a gas conversion adn you do have to replace almost everything in the way of wood.... awsome

Instead of the House of Balsa P-51, consider the Herr Engineering P-51, it's got laser cut parts. The House of Balsa kit has a few solid blocks to carve away, so the Herr may end up lighter. Also the Herr has a leading edge extension so it looks a bit more like a real Mustang.

There may be significant size difference between the Herr kit, and the other.
I flew my brushless 05 in my MEC Zero, with only 8 cells, and it is a Wonderful flyer...very scale; easy to handlaunch; and with just a little time invested in the finish it took a prize in a Scale contest - even without landing gear! And the "kit" is all foam, it is the Kyosho tough-skin kit that MEC resold in their box. Out of production, but still some around. I know Tammies Hobbies had one yesterday - call 503-644-4535 (just a mile from me. Terry |
