1s lipo questions

I love the idea and simplicety of using 1s lipos in dlgs.
But I have some practical qiestions on how this is set up.
Do you use any kind of batterywarning or do you fly on timers alone?
How is the servo performence affected?
And do you overcome this by choosing stronger and faster servos.

I have an XXlite on order and i already have som servos laying around that I was planing on using. Airtronics 802`s for ailerons an JR DS 285 for the tail.
I will be running a Jeti R5 reciver.

I don't use an alarm... servos are a pinch slower but plenty strong for my flying. I typically use JR 188 pull / spring on fuse servos and Airtronics 802 or Hyperion 09SCD on flapperons.

Telemetry radios are very nice to keep an eye on the runtime, but when I flew Airtronics (no telemetry) I would just charge every 30 minutes or so of flying and never, ever had issues. I run 750 - 1000mah single cells.

Drop down to 1S, no reg, no booster, carry an extra battery or two if you're nervous about it, and fly with confidence.

All my DLGs are on 1S setup and the servos used are MKS DS6100, Futaba S3114, Dymond D47 & Tahmazo TS6011... all working perfectly fine on 1S. Drop in performance is hardly noticeable and it has never been a concern of mine.

I'm monitoring my 1S battery with the BTOA which reads out the battery voltage and launch height on my android device via bluetooth.

My previous power was a two-cell 330mAh w/reg. I got about 45 min.'s runtime (found out the hard way).

I switched to a 600mAh 1s (no reg needed), and now fly COMFORTABLY for 1, 1-1/2 hours before reaching 3.6 volts, at which I STILL have mucho time before the 3.3v (my) cutoff point (but I charge back up after 2hrs anyway).

All this runtime is achieved while using 2 jr ds-285's, and 2 hyp. ds09's (all digitals). My two cell setup would brownout (ended up frying everything), and not one hint of a problem now....something to do with the math of it all, apparently a 1s has less voltage drop under load than a 2s. I'll stick with what I've got! Greg.

Is there no issues with voltagedrop on 1s lipo when pulling full flaps?
It would not be a good thing if the revicer reboots when you apply full break.
My Jeti recievers are rated from 3,2V

Btoa, is one way to know voltage. A 1 S 1200 mah lasts for 3+ hours. They sell little lipo battery voltage testers for 10$. I think low voltage should be 3.6 v on a 1S lipo. I use all the same servos as above guys. Futaba 6208 and frysky rx

Not sure how low the voltage pulls during full flaps, but again the issues are not evident so I assume it's ok. BTOA did did not capture the voltage drop. For me, I would not go anything lower than 3.6V. A 1S 680mah usually sufficient for a 3~4 hour session.

lol
I have an older phone( thunderbolt) and I have had some bluetooth issues.
but when it connects and the gal is telling you your Launch height every landing that is really sweet and great for a beginner learning his form. and she tells you your max height in a flight too.
Another problem is I usually have 2-3 planes out of my five flying and I dont have a BTOA in each one and it is not easy to switch and get the CG right again...
So a guy really needs one BTOA for each different plane type you might have.

I use the 900 or 1200 single cell. I try not to allow the voltage to get below 4v. With these batteries that is about 3 to 4 hours of flying. If I were to use a 500mah battery I would not go over 2 hours with it.

Talk about first world problems.

Seriously, I would check the voltage requirements on your receiver. I had some Futaba receivers with a voltage range of 4.8 - 7.4V. Not sure if people use these with 1s but I replaced it with a new receiver with 3.5-10v.

I fly with Jeti recivers.
They are rated 3,2V-8,4V so 1s lipo use should not be a problem.

About three years ago I started testing receivers on 1S. I found that most receivers work well below their stated voltages, or at least at that time they did. I tested Airtronics receivers all the way down to 3.1v. IIRC most of the Spektrum stuff I tested went down to around 3.4v.

Anyhow, with 1S a full charge will get you 4.2V, and 3.9V without load is very safe. Full servo deployment usually only causes a drop of around .1 or .2V unless you have some seriously binding linkages.
