Tiger Moth on floats?

Hello, the park I fly my Tiger Moth at has a nice small pond. Has anyone ever put floats on a Moth? I may have to give it a try later this summer.

Yah, I'm working about it.
I'm scratch building them from foam, and update engine to 300C Gws engine powered by 700 mAh lipo.
I'll post pics when job is done, maybe next week; it's simple to carve floats from foam, you need just sandpaper, a sharp knife and a bit of glassing epoxy.
Stay tuned!

(by the way, here is a pic of my Gws zero on scratch build float; the main one is a balsa structure covered with Oracover, the wing floats were carved by foam. Oh, of course it's no more a Zero, it's a Rufe! )

How long is the take off run with your floats? The pond I am referring to at my park is not that large. I could easily ROG in that space, the pond would fit in the infield of a baseball diamond.

AirWarriorBelgy,
a magnificent Tiger, and a very, very nice place to fly it! Are these picture taken at your home? Great!

By the way, what kind of engine/battery have you used for this model?

This is a pic of my Tiger Moth with float; float are scratch build with foam and carbon tube, then glassed and painted. I'm very courious to discover if it will sunk or not, I'm concerned... Maybe floats are too little.
I'll discover it in the next weekends, I'm waiting for nice weather; here in Italy we had rain and snow for days, that's a bit strange, it's unusual at our latitude to have snow in Feb.
With Lipo 700 mAh pack (2s1p), new balsa tail (the original was too much damaged after +500 flights) and the Gws 300 C engine I stole at my Zero (now gone brushless) it weights a bit, 350 grams.

Let's see.. And hope!

Beaver with EPS350C for floats flyer avalible now!

GWS Beaver with EPS350C for floats flyer avalible now!

Since the floats need more power to take off from the water surface, we shipped some Beaver with EPS350. Ready in GWS USA stock.

They are ready for you to book order from your favorite LHS or on-line resource.

1 cc of water weighs 1 gram so a float, or floats, of 350-cc volume will just float, with the top of the float on the surface of the water like a submarine, if the AUW is 350 grams. For a floatplane we need to have some positive buoyancy so double the volume to 700 cc to lift the top of the float, or floats, above the water. To lift the fuselage further above the water taper the float, or floats, from top to bottom. I normally have the bottom surface about twice the width of the top surface.

The result is an aeroplane that floats like my E-Starter on Floats shown in this photo

floats are 380 mm long (15inches)
13.5 mm wide on top ( 1/2 inch) from front to back

step is 205mm from tip of the nose (8-1/4")

height of the step at the step point is
