Mini Telemaster Project.

Carlos,
Nice pictures from KARS field. Looks like a fun time was had by all.

I took the plunge ( don't know if it's a dive or belly flop yet) and bought 3 Mini-Telemaster kits (at $30.00 a piece might as well buy several). I intend to build it with a modified wing. The extra kits are for when I mess up. Just kidding. I want to build a wing similar to the Flyin' king wing (flat center wing section with dihedraled (is that a word?) outer sections. I also want to add ailerons and (maybe) flaps. I have a series of photos where a builder adds these features.

I intend to put a camera in it. I'm guessing the mod will change the wingspan from 45" (original un-mod'd) to about 51". I want to basically climb to altitude and float. I don't intend to do loops or rolls (at least not with a camera onboard). That's where the other kits come into play. I can also build the original wing and do some 3-channel flyin'.

I'm trying to think this through so the build may take a while.

I think a can make the Mooport Fly-in on Saturday. Let's hope for good weather!

See ya at the field,
Dave T.

Dave,

What power setup are you going to use?

GAS or Electric?

If Electric, are you going brushless? I hope not....too much $$$!

A floater doesn't need much power for hauling....

Well without doing any studying, I was going to get whatever Hobby-Lobby was offering to go along with the kit.
UBR1208 Uberall "Nippy Black" 1208/180 External Rotor Brushless
Motor ..... $ 79.90
JESA18 Jeti Advance 18 Amp Brushless Controller ..... $ 69.00

I see what you mean. Kinda defeats the purpose of a $30 kit.
Of course what's the difference if your going to put a $300 digi-cam
in the plane.
This will be a slow build anyway since there is alot of things to think about
and most are deviations from the original build plans. I'm hoping to learn
as much from the build as I can. It'll be a little different experience than
having to do repairs.

I met mini Carlos yesterday at KARS. Sorry I can't remember his last name.
He showed with two different electric helis. One was a LOGO 20, the other was smaller. And boy could he fly!!! 3D stuff no less. He said his experience is totally in electrics (cars, sailplanes, then helis) but was thinking of moving up to gas. He said he wanted to get to the competition level. I think he's off to a darned good start.
He said was from the Miami area and just started with USA at KSC.

I gave him directions to the Moonport field and told him of the Fly-In tomorrow.
Hopefully, I'll get to see both Carlos and mini Carlos flying.

See ya at the field,
Dave T.

Sky Raider Mach-I Post Repair Flights!

Dear Fans:

She flew for 6 flights for an average of 7 minutes since I conditioned another new 8-cell, GP-3300mAH, Ni-MH pack which brought down the average.

She tracked to the right as I expected and some trim did the trick. However, I still think it was my aileron servo that was not trim properly since at take off she tracked leveled and striaght so, when she went fast it's when I noticed the right turn tendancy.

Sunday early morning before any winds come I will try her again and see which control surface needs a little tweaking or perhaps it's the FUSE leaning to the right as a result of the FUSE repairs.

Everyone just could not stop with all kind of questions and really liked the SKY RAIDER MACH-I and they complimented on a very nice flying SPORT TRAINER.

She performed the best rolls, consecutive loops and inverted flight!

What more can I ask for in an entire investment of under $250 !!!!
Oh, yeah, everyone thought it was flying with a BRUSHLESS

Here's my SKY RAIDER and SUPER STAR resting after a hard day of flying, notice the dirt on the wheels!

I met Carlos from Miami who now lives up here and works at the SPACE CENTER, Welcome Carlos!

Carlos demonstrated super skills at his two Electric Heli's and he flew them like a Champ!

Can't wait to see you flying at KARS!

Carlos made that heli hover inverted about 3 feet off the grass and then, performed fantastic power spins and S-Turns. Just wonderful.

Those there at the Club had their mouths wide open catching flys!

At this point in the picture everyone, except the photographer was clamping and cheering!

Way to go Carlos!

Sincerely,
Carlos (Guapoman2000)

Thanks Jim! Those repairs were also met with a new servo for the elevator control. I was double checking everything this morning at 6:00AM while charging batteries and found the original elevator servo to be damaged. As you commanded to go up elevator it seemed to jump while almost fully up. I disconnected the linkage and found it okay and smooth. Then, I check the servo and place my fingers to give it some resistance and sure enough it was damaged during the crash!

I had a spare HS81 that a co-worker paid me in return for a GWS P-51D and glad it was around!

Yes, that's my teddy BEAR that my girl friend gave me sometime ago....I have it on my bed and it works as a prop whenever I need to take the STEARMAN's bottom wing off!

Same thing on my elevator servo on the new foamie.
Not sure of the price of the gear set for yours, but mine was $1.15.
Easy & sure beats $20 - $30 for a new servo !
I would bet that Graves has them in stock too .

Great Flying at MOON PORT MODELERS CLUB!

Today during 9 MPH winds coming from the South-South East at MOON PORT MODELERS CLUB I was able to attain 14 minutes and 6 seconds of continuous flight time with my SKY RAIDER using the 4X4 Truck Kyosho ENDOPLASMA 16-Turn Truck Motor and the 8-cells, GP-3300mAH, Ni-MH packs! I flew her while performing lots of ACRO, such as sustained inverted flight about 60 feet up and across the field, consecutive loops and the best rolls.

Take a look at my timer!
