First flight of the Dumas 30" Sparrow Hawk! Pics and video included
For those of you that have been following along, I finally got around to test flying the Sparrow Hawk (conversion detailed here).
She flies great, too!
I finally found a bare spot of ground for a test flight and off we went. Christine graciously came along to do the honors of taking pictures and (yes) video. The video you'll see is indeed the test flight, so I won't tell too much about it. However, the 'hawk is a beautiful flying plane. She's off the ground in under 10 feet at 1/2 throttle on the razor and cruises around very nicely at 1/4 throttle. The controls are amazingly effective.
She seems to have no bad habits though, granted, I never did get her way up there for any stall tests. Beyond all else, she looks absolutely fantastic in the air. This is a plane perfectly suited to low flybys, lights shining in your face. I really couldn't be happier with how she performs!
I didn't try anything in the way of aerobatics and beyond the occassional roll or two, I won't be. She's not meant for it. I can't wait to get out for more Sparrow Hawk time! Unfortunately the flights were cut short by my freezing fingers but we'll get more pics and video soon. The video is being edited now. Here's the first of a pile of pictures, just after takeoff on the second hop.

Well, this one would need the Macon as that's what's on the fuselage. I've considered making a fake trapeze to hang the plane from the ceiling with. For now a plant hook will do
... another fuzzy flyby. Christine did great despite the low lighting. These pics have all been brightened so they don't really show how dull of a day it is.

Another amazing project Martin!
It quite incredible to build something YOURSELF and watch it perform as you and the pictures describe.
For those that dig foam out of a GWS box, slap them together and consider it building...THINK AGAIN! Martin has figured out what the best part of this hobby is.
