Make it hurt...

Same as the sequester...intentionally cause problems for people because you've been denied the money you want.

The rangers even closed the parking lot at Mount Vernon, where the plantation home of George Washington is a favorite tourist destination. That was after they barred the new World War II Memorial on the Mall to veterans of World War II. But the government does not own Mount Vernon; it is privately owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association. The ladies bought it years ago to preserve it as a national memorial. The feds closed access to the parking lots this week, even though the lots are jointly owned with the Mount Vernon ladies. The rangers are from the government, and they’re only here to help.

“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

Make it hurt...make them pay..

It's all part of the revenge our president talks about. But again, we're getting what we deserve.

The National Park Service has ordered the closure of a Virginia park that sits on federal land, even though the government provides no resources for its maintenance or operation.

The Claude Moore Colonial Farm announced on Wednesday that NPS has ordered it to suspend operations until Congress agrees to a deal to fund the federal government.

According to Anna Eberly, managing director of the farm, NPS sent law enforcement agents to the park on Tuesday evening to remove staff and volunteers from the property.
Jack-booted-thugs.

Yes, they are basically jack booted thugs.

No Federal Services. Public road. fire and police services from local town.

and they want to shut down this private business because they can, and because it will hurt and that's the goal. Punishment by any means possible.

They also attempted to cancel all collegiate sports for the military academies - until forced to relent due to the obviousness of the malicious intentions.

Fail #2. The Claude Moore Colonial Farm is owned by the National Park Service, and therefore it's part of the government shutdown. Don't like it? Tell your GOP representative to pass a budge or a continuing resolution.

These tourist attraction shutdowns are an ideal weapon - international visitors and all.

Shall the president sign a bill to fund the national parks on its own?

Jack-booted-thugs.
I heard this also extends now to parts of Jamestown, not due to it being on Fed land but due to the access being on Fed land.

Managing Director Anna Eberly says that the farm has been “critical of the National Park Service because we think they have closed us down illegally according to the terms of the agreement we signed with them in 1981.” Eberly says that the farm’s agreement with the NPS states that the park service is only asked to provide police protection when necessary, and has no authority to close the park down. Eberly notes that the farm has elected to call in local law enforcement from Fairfax County, not the NPS, when police are needed.

The Claude Moore Colonial Farm was established as Turkey Run Farm by the National Park Service in 1972 under President Nixon’s Legacy-in-the-Parks program. When federal budget cutbacks threatened the closure of the Farm in 1980, the community rallied behind Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) and Senator John Warner (R-VA) to save this popular educational resource. The citizens’ group, incorporated in 1981 as The Friends of Turkey Run Farm, Inc., raised the funds immediately necessary to keep the park open as plans were made for the Farm’s long-term financial and operational stability.
Anna Eberly only directs the operations of the park when the NPS is open and functioning. During a shutdown, they get closed just like every other national park.

Fail. The house has passed *multiple* budgets.

The fact is, Dems are the ones preventing budgets from senate passage and then signing

At least be honest about unilaterally making non negotiable demands

They have a 30 year lease. So the Federal government is violating the terms of its lease. Under most state laws that would be an illegal eviction. Under federal laws I suspect the NPS actions would be cause for a lawsuit.

Proves the Government is to big, and needs cut. Add the Park Service to departments needing cut.
