Zero UAV Gemini Autopilot[OwnersThread] *Dual Redundancy Autopilot for Multi-Rotors*

Aerial photography industry is full of risks and challenges, and everything is nothing if there is no security. The Gemini autopilot, developed by Zero UAV and particularly designed for professional advertising, film and television etc., is the first double redundancy multi-rotor flight controller in the field of uav. Meanwhile it is quite a reliable autopilot provided by Zero for ensuring standardized security code of aerial photography.

  
Gemini autopilot consists of two independent sets of GPS, compass and IMU. What's more, users may monitor the working status of the two sets of sensors at the same time through GCS (ground control station) . In addition, if any sensor has error, it may automatically seamlessly switch to another sensor and give automatic alarm to users via GCS, which greatly reduces the possibility of crash or failure. Besides, users can freely choose any of the GPS or compass to combine with the IMU of another unit.

Featured Functions:
1 Gemini goes for the flying security to the extreme by integrating with double GPS, IMU and compass. When a failure occurs, the master controller can automatically switch to the slave controller and the GCS will give alarm to users at the same time.



2 It is perfectly compatible with the safety parachute. Controlled by the Gemini autopilot, the parachute will be opened automatically and the motors will stop spinning in emergency to protect the entire system.



3 Intelligent course lock function contains automatic dodging landing gear feature which saves the trouble of using retractable landing gear.

4 Users can preset up to 256 available waypoints. By pushing transmitter softly, the craft may fly according to the 3D waypoints preset based on the 3D coordinates of each point , and the flying speed is controlled by the sticks in real time, so that it is very easy to repeat the skyline of film shots.



4 High stable FPV mode of Gemini autopilot makes a new pattern of cooperating of gimbal and craft , first invents that the craft can follow up the gimbal automatically and the gimbal may be directly controlled by the transmitter, the lens control is more smooth compared with the previous FPV mode.

Here are some detailed technical description of Gmini Industrial Multi-rotor Autopilot (Double Redundancy FC) which may make the characteristics more clear :

1:Why we need Double Redundancy FC :
In order to improve the reliability of flight control, ensure the safety of aircraft and camera, especially the safety of people.

2:Why Double Redundancy FC safer:
According to the probability theory, suppose the?failure?probability?of? a?system is 1/100, so the probability of two systems failure at the same time is 1/10000. Meanwhile, according to the previous reliable data statistics,the eletronics of autopilot below are easier to fail (failure rate decreasing):
1 compass
2 GPS
3 gyro etc. inertial sensor
4 processor and power
5 loose connections
Among the factors above, the possibility of failure or data error of compass, GPS and sensor is higher. Copter would mulfunction once the sensor fails. Nowadays, most of the compass, gps and sensors of multirotors are similiar to even the same as the eletronics of mobile phone (such as HMC5883L in compass, ublox or NVS module in GPS), and the manuals of those eletronics have no specification whether the eletronics can be used to aviation application. However, Gemini autopilot could tell out the problems and switch to the spare sensor to pretect the copter if the sensor has failure which greatly reduces the crash possibilities caused by autopilot.

3 How does the Gemini autopilot tell out the error?
  Gemini autopilot would auto check and compare the two sensors when it is booted before flying, and make alarm to users by GCS, even lock motors if the error is beyond limited range.
  During flying, gmini autopilot would process and fuse the data of sensor and estimate the failure through Extend Kalman Filter algorithm. Besides, if the sensor has abnormal drifting, Gemini could tell out the error and switch to the spare sensor very fast by calculating previous flying status and estmating current sensor data.
The dual backup failure distinguish algorithm have been through rigorous design, simulation and actual flying test, which has the characteristics of accuracy, quickness, safety and practicality. To prove this, you can have a try: anytime when you get the mobilephone close to the GPS/compass, and interfere any of the autopilot compass using the magnet inside phone speaker, or anytime when you cut off any GPS or the connections of Gemini Slave, you will see the accurate failure prompt, failure distinguish and auto switch from the GCS.

Yes, the two sets autopilot are independent and connected.
About the parachute control, that is Gemini Autopilot may auto-check the rollover of the craft, it will output parachute-opening signal to enable the parachute when the rollover of the craft is over 70 degree. In auto mode, the motor may stop spinning.

Good! But don't forget you other products... Seems like the YS-X4 has been forgotten, since the other products have gotten a September firmware, but not the YS-X4?

Imho the set of 2 controllers is surplussed and looks like the attempt to sell 2 controllers at one time

Of course, its more easy to have minimum changes in existing system, but if you really want to have compact and reliable system, its much better to have 2 independent boards in one case.
