which JR digital servos for ION?

What are the best servos to use for an ION - I'm using JR 10 X system and would like to use digital JRs, but which ones?

Hello

The 8311 is JR's servo for helis. I think it has 130oz/in of torque at 4.8 volts so that should be enough for just about anything. Oh and It has a plastic gear train.

you should consider the futaba 9252's these are really great servos and seem to be what most of the fury guys I know fly.

Just a thought

i'm using futaba 9252s on my predator. they're good servos, but futaba's customer service is not so great. JR/Horizon's customer service is legendary. if i were to buy again, i would look at JR servos.

Agreed - Futaba cant touch JR service

My Ion will be getting 8311s on the CCPM and a new 500T/8700G combo for the tail. Not sure on the Rx yet - Im having excellent success with the new JR 770 PCM Rx. Only weighs 3/4 of an ounce too!

Im not 100% sold on the 500T gyro yet either - put one in my new Logo 10 with the 810G servo and it holds well, but not like the 401/9253. Im putting an 8700G on in the new few weeks and if it holds solid, I'll stick this combo on the Ion too. All the Team JR guys swear by the 500T/8700G though right now!

For the head you will want 8231's or 8311's. I have the 8231's in a Joker CX and the 8311's in a
Maxi Joker. Both work fine, are very precise, and you never have to even think about them. Just what you
want from a servo.

As for the tail, that's another matter. The best systems will be gyro/servo combinations built
to work together. Here JR has been behind Futaba and they really don't have anything that can match
the 401/9253 combo in the mid-price catagory. The 500T/810G combo is being touted as the equal of
the 401/9253, but if LVRCFlyer says it isn't then you may want to go the Futaba route on the tail.

Towerhobbies now has the GY401 coupled with the 9254.
The 9254 has about double the torque of the 9253. Tower's price is $220.00 so we should be able to get it for about $200.00 from Rick's/Heliproz, etc.

Actually thinking about it some more, its not entirely fair to compare the 500T/810G combo to a 401/9253 combo. The 810G is a cored motor servo, so you cant run the gyro on the high frame rate setting. To be honest, the 500T/810G combo holds better than just about every other high speed servo servo you would use with the 401 - maybe even a little bit better! The holding power of the 500T is there - it just needs the right servo to bring out the best its got!

Ive got a lot of faith that once I try the 8700G servo with the 500T on the high frame rate setting, the 401/9253 wont be the better combo at all.

One part I really like about the new 500T is the piro rate. If Gary posts the vids of my Logo 10, wait til you see how fast this thing can spin!!! Even though the piro rate was incredible, it was still at the highest gain possible without wagging. With the 401, you have to turn the ATV to 150%, then the gain way down (ie - less holding power at the tail) to come even close to this piro rate. And with the 500T, I was only at 100% ATV! It was pretty awesome

I cant wait to try the 8700G. Might be a little overkill for a Logo 10, but if it holds as solid as Im expecting, itll be well worth it!
