RCLogger - LED Magnifying Lamp with Third Hand

Check out this great soldering assistant with a magnifying lamp, LED lighting, third hand and gooseneck holder!

Soldering made easy!

I solder a lot. I bet I have the soldering iron out at least 3 times a week. That's why I got excited when I saw the RCLogger Magnifying Lamp soldering tool. I have purchased many versions of this kind of device. I currently have two that are not made by RCLogger. Both are pretty small and the gator clips come off all the time. I have one with a magnifying glass that is pretty useless.

RCLogger has produced a version of this tool this is amazingly useful! It's a work of well thought out art!

RCLogger LED Magnifying Lamp with Third Hand (5 min 0 sec)

I was excited when RCLogger said they would send me this unit to review. When I pulled this out of the box I knew I had a great new addition for the work bench. The weight alone made me feel like this was a quality tool. When I pulled the plastic off I noticed one great feature after another.

Features:

  • Magnifying lamp (4x and 2x)
  • Mounting holder with 2 alligator clips (great for tinning wires)
  • Sponge (keep the tip clean!)
  • Power supply unit (100 or 240 volts)
  • 4 x rubber feet (no need to screw this to your work bench)
  • 2 x spindle holders (Love it!!)
  • 2 x spindles (10/19mm)

Magnifying Glass - Usually these are too small or inflexible to use. This thing can bend any direction and not tip over. The lens is big enough to use on any project and the 16 LED lights keep everything bright.

Power Supply - The LED lights can be run off of house power or battery. Great!

Spindle Holders - This is a nice touch. I put two rolls of wire and my solder spindle on it.

Soldering Gun Holder - I have had these that just didn't fit my gun. This has a metal shield in the middle that will keep me from getting burned.

Swan Arm - This third arm will bend anywhere and really makes all the difference with this device. 2 thumbs up!

Conclusion - I like my tools but I rarely am blown away by one. When I was unboxing this all I could say was, "Swanky!" This will live a long life and be a apart of many projects on my work bench. I love it!

I bought one of these....well I was at Radio Shack yesturday and bought their version. I couldn't pass it up...it was regular priced at around the $70-80 ...on sale for $23!

One thing I see different is the one thing that makes the RC Logger much better. It simple....but for rc hobbyist.....well....it's the third arm. The one I have only has the two gator clips. Yesterday I was soldering an antenna on a board and to have the third clip that is on a separate holder/bracket would have made it SO MUCH easier!

I guess thats why they came out with "their" version.

The light is awsome too.!

My only complaint is the arm the magnifier and light is on ....its stiff. Im sure it will break in, but I've onky used it one time so far and when I adjust it...it doesnt stay in the exact spot....but im sure its all because it new and needs to be worked a bit.

Oh...the size if the magnifier is percect! ....not to big but big enough where both eyes can see threw it when your face is an inch away. Love it!

If I could do it over...I think the rc loggers version is the way to go. The 3rd arm would make all the difference. ..hands down! (No point intended. ..lol)

I didn't notice the magnifier arm being too stiff on the RCLogger version. I had a group of RC modelers over last night and after checking out the RCLogger unit they all wanted one. I try not to gush over products but man I like this thing.

I haven't done it but it looks like all you have to do is remove a screw and switch sides with the swan arm.

Looks incredible! Just ordered one!

I have a far cheaper one that I got on Amazon a while back; works well but this one just looks like it's on another level

I ordered mine from Jameco, I specified Priority shipping (and of course paid for it) BUT they decided to ship it standard snail mail so now it is schedules for late next week delivery. I guess I will post my thoughts when it gets here.
