In another recent thread about a Dean's Kit, someone asked what "R.A.M.B." means...

Any ideas?

Looks like the old caveat of "some assembly required"?

At a sticker price of ~350UKP for the hull and superstructure ONLY, it'd better run good!

It is a limited edition (gimmick again to jack-up the already expensive price.), and did they
just produce one copy for demo purpose ?

Looks like the "hull and superstructure" kit contains a lot of detail. From the pics, the kit also appears to be pre-painted? 950mm is also fairly large. I've been critical of DM in the past but this appears to be a reasonable value if one likes the subject and one does not have the time and or skill to build from scratch?

At close to 600USD, it'd better have a lot of details.

One could buy a real canoe/boat (with a lot of details!) for
half that price.

I don't like that word "limited edition"...
Are people going to put their boats in a museum??
For me, I buy boats to build, play and display, (looping 10K times... until it dies.)
It's not like buying stocks, and I never think it will appreciate.

Come on, it's just a hobby!

Too true- not sure how long you have been in/around the toy boat hobby, but more toy boats fit into the craig's list used canoe/boat price range than you might guess.

toy boats do take effort to produce...

there is something for everyone though which makes it great!

Exactly! though, if they provide some joy, which hopefully they do, then they are potentially life-changing.

Again, the great thing about the model boat hobby is anybody can participate and it does not need to be particularly costly.

Unlike the other life-changing adult activity, it doesn't need a partner!

What a coincidence !

I wanted to buy a Hong Kong Police Patrol Boat last year, and it was also a limited edition. When I asked them, they told me that it was sold out.

History is repeating itself again !

Are these sales strategies to create future demand, so that they could justify charging
outrageous prices for later "limited edition" models? They may think people will rush in to
buy these "limited edition" boats for the fear that they will be sold out.
Isn't this some smart "killing the chicken to get the egg" greed strategy?

Are we going to see another "Stan P 47 British Patrol Boat" limited edition boat
from Deans Marine again later, and it is a R.A.M.B. kit and cost > 400UKP ?

No wonder more and more people I know are building boats from scratch instead of
building kits.
