Yea... The is this thread on the Firebaby. The pics (and info) on the Jim Walker site show the FB with a balsa fuse that should be easy to replicate. (Be sure to read the info on that site on the folding wing Glider that the military used).

There is a video on the Horizon site about using the micro DSM electronics about building a 2x rubber band plane for R/C .... Reminds me of the FB construction.. Could be fun..

More of George's work

The gentleman in the yellow shirt provided me with plans to this one. The wing is on the larger size and the fuselage longer then the typical hollow log. He says it is the best flyer.

Unfortunately, I could't stick around for the flying due to a family commitment

This was my first plane ever. Built it last summer. Crashed and repaired 3 times.

Pretty airplane! May I ask what the eye hook in the nose is for?

Thanks,
KP

I used the eye hooks to hold the hatch in place. Just thought it looked cool.

Staggerwing Beech by Sig.

Just a few details to finish. I doubt it will fly with that cowl much.

The part of the prop close to the hub doesn't do much, the Gee-Bee had no problems with the huge radial engine up-front

The cowl makes it hard to prime, etc... Plus I couldn't get much space between it and the front of the cylinder. It will probably melt the plastic. Tiny screws hold it on that are easily dropped and lost.

A bean I finished up not to long ago. I had tried to built one of theses waay back in the day when I was in my youth, although I never really got the concept of paitence back then, and it was never finished. Anyhow, hope you enjoy.

I strayed away from the plans to reinforce the super fragile wingtip balsa with some 1/32 plywood. A common problem with the Bean is warping when using a good covering like Hangar 9 ultracoat. The reinforcment I did on the wing helped with that as I had zero warp after finishing.

Tips under pressure.

I also blocked the ribs with some small square stock I had. Those had to be beveled down so the covering would not "tent" on the corners.

The tips aslo recieved some reinforcing to keep from pulling up or down as the covering shrank.

The trailing edge joint recieved a strip of 1/16 plywood.

Down the length with the leadouts bedded and all bracing done. I wasn't done with the sanding in this shot (i think).

Wing/fuse assembly almost done and getting ready for root filling and painting.

And a finish shot on the table. Dyed the nylon engine mount with Rit dye as well as the elevator horn. Used the dubro 1/16 wire plastic wheel collars that look like hubcaps.

And a sun pic on the wire table. Turned out pretty good and flys really nice. Thought it would be a bit heavy with all the bracing, but it jumped right off the deck when launched.

Beautiful.
And yes, my wingtips do turn down slightly after applying the Ultracote. Doesn't seem to affect it though.
I had to reinforce the motor mount, that plastic clip-on doesn't bolster the strength of the nose like the old wooden type. After breaking it off several times, I used the ply doublers that came in the kit for the beam mount. It's a lot stronger now.
