Heli4life and Eclipse_7, could you please give us a little report on flight performance of your glow coversions of the electric foamies? Also, any pics or detailed descriptions on how you mounted the engine and tank. Thanks!

Formosa Update

TEM,

Weather has been the pits! I hope this week will allow for some suitable flying weather.

I will update as soon as I have the results. Pics of the nose without the cowl will follow.

Cheers,

Paul

I had nice flying weather this afternoon so I maidened the cub. The .049 will hover it at full throtle even with a 700mah nicad pack. Good thing I had a throtle on it or it would have been a flyaway. I mounted the cox sideways cause I thought it looked cooler and easier acess to reed valve, but I could have hidden it in the cowling if I mounted it upside down. I was goeing to use an external fule tank but I would have to buy one, plus it was easier to install and fit just right with the bolt on tank.

Formosa Update

Well the weather finally agreed and the flight with my Norvel powered Formosa was amazing. The plane flew like a rocket on rails. I am estimating speeds of 70MPH on the down run. This would be on the conservative side.

The plane was very responsive and needed 40% expo added to allow for steady flight AROUND NEAUTRAL AS IT WAS WAY TO SENSITIVE. Hats off to GWS for such a nice flying plane. Characteristics are similar to some of my other pattern planes that I have flown over the years.

Attached is a picture of the motor and installation. The plane has a 2-oz Sullivan tank imbedded in the foam behind the 1/4 lite ply firewall. A dubro 1/2 A mount is used for the motor and a sullivan quick filler allows refueling without taking the cowl off or having tubing outside the cowl.

I encourage others to try the conversion. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Yet another Little Stick

Yes, yet another little stick in the traditional red/white with black iron crosses on the wings (how original of me :-)

Powered by a Norvel 061 and weighing a massive 24oz but still a lot of fun to fly. In this picture it has one of those little wireless video cams mounted on the center of the wing.

Here is my latest ship. All up weight 14oz, 36.5" wing span and HS-55 servos. Powered by a Cox reedie on either glow or diesel as in this picture. It flies very nice..better than I can fly it anyways. Rolls are very pretty. I need to add a film canister tank so I can fly longer inverted with it.

Later,
Tim

Hello,
Man, I am gonna need to scour some old old RC magazines. I was reading this threads beginning, and SO many 1/2A's come from plans from Model Aviation or other R/C magazine. I would really like to build one from plans. That would be a good time. Right now, I am building a 1/2A coroplast flyer. 3/4" U Channel aluminum tubing, etc. -Patrick
