V929 C1404 3000KV Build

5x V929 Centre Frame
4x V929 Carbon Boom

Lemon Flip - RX FC - New how-to to come.
Plush 6A ESCs BLHeli 9.2
C1404 3100kV motors - Thanks to MotoMoto
Gemfan 5030 props
Nanotech 2S 450mAh - Bit small but uber light. 3:30min flight time flown hard. 2S 950mAh are next to try.

AUW = 112.14 grams

Build Process...

Frame

Stock V929 centre frame

Cut down

Centre frame how-to vid
FnBL V929 Centre (1 min 22 sec)

Motor mount from V929 centre frame

Motor mount how-to vid
FnBL Motor Mount (2 min 23 sec)

V929 carbon boom

Bare frame

All 6.6 grams, plus 4.4 grams of motor mounts = 11 gram frame

Motor Prep

Motor shaft (prop saver) screws were loctited. I have never received a motor with the shaft screws even tight, never mind thread locked. Other than the press fit of the shaft these are all that hold the motor together. There's a pic of how much grease comes off the threads with alcohol. I spray a tissue and then pinch the threads between fingernails and back out the screw with a driver, twice each screw. This helps loctite bond. Only a small amount of loctite is needed, but absolutely necessary.

Motor mount, 3 screws, 3 washers

Hobbyking size 2 washers???

Motors mounted

Motor assembly weight

3 Motors needed quite a lot of balancing. Dynamically balanced in hand, trial & error. Makes a massive difference!

ESCs

Significant weight is saved by removing the unused power wires

Flashed with BLHeli.  Thread here...
The ESCs are from my Dialfonzo nano. This is how quick BLHeli responds.
BLheli V9.2, Plush 6A, C10 2900kV, 2S (0 min 17 sec)

Do not forget the heatshrink!

Wish I had lighter stuff 1.68g for 3 pieces

Laid out ready to solder

Good ol' wooden-peg-in-a-vice trick. Don't forget to flip 2 wires for clockwise motors.

Shrink the heat shrink

Tidy the motor wires and ESC wires down the side

Lemon-Flip FC-RX

How to build a Lemon-Flip will have a detailed how-to blog post soon.
Till then here is the original two posts...

Parma servo tape

FC mounted and soldered

77.17g dry weight

AUW

Under

Under plus lipo

Multiwii Settings
Soon to come. Basically stock + rates - expo

Flying Vids...

FnBL Round Two (3 min 39 sec)

Franken Brushless (2 min 4 sec)

Multistar 1704 1900KV Build

*** Under Construction *** Next build - To be updated

*** UPDATE 2013-08-24 ***

Here's some pics of the Multistar 1704's fitting the HK q-Bot micro (3mm) frame and the U817/U818 (4mm) frame. Also testing the HQ Prop 7x4's...
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...874705&page=25

The 1704 X-Mount fits the q-Bot micro frame FC mounts perfectly. It can be secured with screws, these are V929 screws which would need a washer. Bigger screws should fit fine if drilled. They can be cable tied for a no screw solution. Need to weigh each to see which is lighter.

X-Mount on q-Bot micro frame.

X-mount on U817/U818 frame. Held in place by the FC mounts and also there are markings on the frame at the exact points to screw the X-Mount. It can also be cable tied.

I will be persuing the HQ Prop 7x4 props on the 1704's with 2S 1000mAh lipos. Should be a nice setup. Hopefully on the 4mm frame.

V959 frame
HK F-6A flashed SimonK
Lemon-Flip FC-RX

Thanks to Daryoon for posting in the above thread regarding HK qBot Micro centre frames, otherwise I would not have known about them
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...&postcount=161

In progress... using HK Q-Bot micro centre frames as motor +mounts.

They mount well, I just wonder how strong they'll be in a crash. There's no much material around the arm to brace them. They are made of carbon reinforced nylon and are strong.

Cut the lipo cage off.

Mark 12.4mm

Good protection for the motors.

M2 x 6mm screws.

Dude!
I just watched your part deux video... and I am dumbfounded, befuddled and stupified by the hummingbird like performance! and the fact that the frame held-up to the G's! seeing the pics I thought naw!, but damned if it dint. Oh and great flying btw!

I really really have to learn how to flash the wee 6A ESCs and join-in on the Fun.
Great stuff, and really clean and neat builds.

Thanks mate!!! I've enjoyed your flying on very numerous occasions too

I was sceptical the frame would have too much flex, but because its so light it holds up great! Stock mQX is about 70g? AUW this isn't that much more at 112.

The next build (1704's) may well be too heavy for the 3mm arms, but I will try anyway Then buy some 4mm carbon tube.

ZMR / RCX 1804 Build

Hey Soma - Great stuff!

Do the ZMR / RCX 1804 2400Kv motors run 3S? I could not find any info on them.

Cheers mate! Oh yes it shreds... My nerves mostly Would you believe I've been trying to find a way to do this for about 9 months? And it was staring me in the face the whole time! I always thought the results would be good, but just how good took me by surprise!

Are you thinking of building something similar? There's a few different ideas to come in the next 2 builds.

Yes Sir! They do indeed. Most of the talk on these motors is on this thread....
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...9#post25897943
Wolfmetalfab has been pushing them well beyond their limits. Talk goes back quite a few pages. He also has info on his blog post. Antslake has had great reports of them too. I've only bench tested but they seem very good.

They may hold up under 6x4.5 props on 3S if the quad is very light. If not it will require 5030's or 5x4.5 triples. They also need at least 10A ESC's it seems.

The motors are from myrcmart.com

Cheers all!
