Looking for the best FPV camera - July 2013

I have been using a couple of RCV922 cameras for 4 years now with very good results.

After a short hiatus I am back into FPV and I realize it's time to upgrade my hardware. The 922s were not top of the line back then and obviously not the only ones that expose the ground properly for FPV use.

I have searched forums, watched videos and read countless threads and reviews about various cameras, the Pixim sensors, DSP, WDR, Super HAD-sensors, with IR-filters or not. Some of them produce alot of interference some are unnecessary bulky, some perform just right but expensive.
So... I AM LOST!

I need a cased (or with case available to buy separately) camera that performs good for daytime FPV use, not too cheap - but preferably not more than $100 either.
Any voltage is ok for me but the wider range the better.

Which camera is the best FPV camera as of today July 16, 2013?
Can you please, point me to the right direction?

I think the consensus is that the TBS69 from TBS is still the cream of the crop, esp for rich colour. And two hundred bucks.

If you can forego the case or diy adapt a generic case, the PZ0420 does an excellent job in adjusting exposure to image the ground. And it is a very good night flying cam also. Usually $50, sometimes found for $30, and it is the most popular camera today. Can improve its colour using filters.

not gonna lie, I can *barely* tell the difference in the ground recordings. colors are better perhaps, and maybe it shines in night flying...

otherwise... yeah, slight difference between it and the pz0420, certainly not 45 vs 170 difference unless you got dollars to burn.

Ok I found the PZ0420 here:

http://www.surveilzone.com/sony-supe...ens-fpv-cc1333

and then here:
http://www.securitycamera2000.com/pr...-Menu-DNR.html

but I amreading that an IR-filtered version with more vivid colors comes out under the name CMQ1993.

What's your opinion about that last one?

Thanks,
Dimi

donno about the IR version, but SC2000 is great. I had an issue with my pz0420 and they took care of it for me.

I think the IR blocked version may be better for bright light, weaker at dusk or evening?

Thank you bauerbach, I think I'll place an order with SC2000 too.

Could you watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=tvhMdfjdy3E

and then have a look at these pics
http://www.securitycamera2000.com/CC...ard-camera.jpg

... aren't they contradicting?

In the video it's the right - "non IR filter" version but on the photo example the "IR blocked" is showing more vivid colors..

My understanding is that even tho you can't see them, the camera still reacts to infra red. So there's actually more light in the scene than what you can see. IR blocked means the excess non-visible light is filtered out so the camera only sees the regular Red Green Blue.

Anyway, the main selling points of it is that it's CCD so there's no jello (The jello effect is on CMOS cameras only), and the WDR which means the ground doesn't turn black when you look at the horizon.

Downside of CCD is the vertical streak when you point it at something bright.

Pixim Seawolf in case (PZ0481):
http://www.securitycamera2000.com/pr...-Lens-OSD.html

Absolutely no point in buying a TBS camera at three times the price, it's the same camera as above except they make wild claims of special firmware (unsubstantiated claims) and whack the price up

A couple of my videos with the PZ0481

Super Skysurfer FPV Pixim Seawolf footage (2 min 16 sec)

Forgive the erratic alt readings on this one, it's mixed in with a short clip from where I forgot to hit the reset button before launch
FPV Super Skysurfer Gwrhyd Ground Station Pixim Seawolf view (3 min 11 sec)

Here's my camera settings:

I bought a few pixum cameras from security2000
But not like your link
I have uncassed version with osd removeable controller
Never changed the settings from stock and it works really well
Basically same as trappies pixum that costs way more
They were on sale from security 2000, which has really good customer service
They change lens and refocus free of charge as example

This one looks like great deal$

The cased Pixim Seawolf for $65 + free shipping sounds just perfect.

What I don't see in the osd menus though and worries me is the burned pixel erase function. My 922s have all at least 5-6 bright spots (direct sun damage?) and the cheaper PZ0420 cameras do take care of this problem...

Thats a cool thing fatsharks have
There is adjustments for video quality on left side
Ie throttle side
So you can adjust video and still fly the plane
Too bright or dark as example can be changed as you fly

A camera that has problems flying into the sun is not fun camera

However every flight is different
Angle of sun makes world of difference
In video quality big time

yes, IR blocked version ( 1993X ) is not suitable for evening use, just the bright day.

Can you tell us the function of the J2 (4 pin) header on the camera board? Is that for remote switching of day/ night and remote digital zoom?

hello, the J2 header is used for connecting the DC driver's auto aperture.
sorry, there is no external plug to be used to control the day/ night and remote digital zoom.
