Here are some pics of my Formosa. I was getting stuff together for the Summer Fly in last July, it was 110 degrees that day but the Formosa gave a good account of itself You can see the little AXI motor is a perfect fit and really screams when you want it to.

I used a thin strip of plywood to reinforce the weak center part of the elevator which can break under high G loading.

Topspin, your Formosa looks brand new!.. Do you have a different color on the belly of the plane? Like you, I hand launch, and belly land. 200 wt motor, unlimited vertical. I really like to fly the Formosa when there is a strong wind that grounds the rest of my fleet. It handles the wind well. Conversely, my Formosa has a tendency to stall very easily when landing..that is why mine doesn't look as good as yours. So, what I do, and it works very well, and this is the only plane that I do this with, is that I land it with the wind..

Have you ever looked at the Formosa II??

It's actually been around a while, I built it in 2009 so this will be it's 3rd year. It is more scraped up on the bottom than you think but I clean the grass and dirt stains off of it with medical alcohol wipes and that keeps it pretty clean.

I also try not to flare too hard on the landing so it doesn't flop on the nose, I have broken props that way before. Almost forgot, there is no paint on the plane to save weight. The green stripe on the LE is for orientation in spins.

I have looked at the Formosa II but just not sure if it's that much better.

Wish you may try again with EPO version.

I have the FW-190 and the GWS-40 in EPO Mr. Lin and both of them are heavier than the EPP foam versions. I also found both of them to be slightly tail heavy and required some modification to get the CG right.

The thing I like about the Formosa is it's light weight. I add carbon fiber rod and flat stock where needed to add strength but still come out at 55 grams AUW including the battery. I'm wondering what EPO will do to the weight of the airplane.

The Formosa is a classic pattern plane and I doubt if anyone could make a better one than GWS does.

It is bigger. ... which can be an advantage or a disadvantage. Depends.

The smaller size of the original makes it very convenient: easy to store and transport. Or, I can just grab it and walk to the park half a mile away.

Your Formosa kits are not EPO. I have not seen one in the US yet and I don't think Caliber even has them yet.

I've got one flying now.. Smooth as silk.. The other two are for the inevitable wrong move with the thumbs!

The Funny Park is a hand full compared to the Formosa..

If you ever get bored, you could get creative with one of the kits and build something different.

Thanks Woodsy I would like to see a build thread and see how the new EPO turns out. I'm especially interested in the empty weight and any CG issues.

We still don't have them in the States yet and probably won't until the EPP stock has been sold out.
