Thanks, Art!

Guess I don't need that in there. Maybe I'll just stick it on the fridge. . .

Guys, I am moving this to Power Systems. Where it should have been in the first place.

Yes, you can use this in a micro heli. But this thread is not specific to that.

Hi Art,
I followed your instruction to remove the shaft using the vise and it went like a breeze but the last 2 piece of stator broke off. I think the glue must have come loose. What glue can I use to glue it back before rewinding?

Thanks on the method and picture to remove the bronze bell. I will give it a try tomorrow.

Cheers.

Art,
I still can't locate your link to your Piccolo CDROM build.

Will there be a link to your Hummingbird CD ROM build also?

What wire guage did you use and how many turns did you make for the Hummingbird motor?

Thanks.

Shim, you can use CA to glue the stator pieces back togther. The wire wraping will do a pretty good job of that once you get it on.

shim, start looking here; http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...&pagenumber=21

Once you start rewinding the stator, that will be good enough to hold it all together.

I wish you wouldn't have done that : (

It seems to me that there is enough differentiation (mounts, pinions, wind combinations, between a "micro-heli" CD-Rom and a "general" Cd-Rom to warrant a thread in the micro-heli forum.

Art,
Boy this is hard work or am I dumb. I clamp the brass flywheel into a vise and using a punch and hammer on the flywheel's centre broke the flywheel leaving the centre still intact on the bell. I think I also slightly distorted the bell when on the vise. I will try and post a pick of what happened so you can see where I went wrong.

Thanks.

shim, make sure your punch is smaller than 3mm

HELP!!! - mine sort of works!

Hi guys,
I have just made my first motor, it runs ok at low speed but doesn't respond to the throttle at all well. If you try to push it, the ESC shuts down at random. (I think it is having trouble staying in sync)..

The motor has 14 turns of .3mm wire in the coils and still has the original magnet assy in the bell.
I am using a Kontronic smile 40a ESC.

The other 'feature' is that it works on my Lab PSU OK but won't start if it is run on batteries (never gets in sync). I have tried 3s li-poly and 8cell 800AR Ni-Cads.

It pulls approx 1A on a gws 6x5 and 1.5 amps on a GWS 7x6.
The throttle responds up to 1/3 and then doesn't go any faster (but will shutdown after a while).

[edit by CF: forget the current readings - that was what the lab PSU measured with damping on - it's obviously al lot higher!]

I tried my best to get 14 turns on each winding, but I can't be 100% sure.
Is there something I have missed?

It sounds like you need to replace the magnets in your bell. Use some 5x5x1mm magnets and that should help your sync.

Jim,
Thanks for that.
I have since tried it with my new Pheonix 25. It runs better with this ESC although it seems to get a lot hotter.
I have also played around with the timing, but it didn't seem to make much difference.
This motor loves the 400 gunther prop. I got 10K RPM out of it on 2s li poly!
I suspect that I'm pulling to many amps though. The 700 li-po's are heating up (not had that happen with my IPS motors).

The only other curious thing that is happening at the moment is that I can't get either ESC over 50% throttle before the ESC's stop the motor.
I'll order some magnets from Nippon Dave. (I might even get a Phoenix 10 to go with them).

Mitch.

If your motor is wound in Delta, 14 turns will make a very hot wind. If you can change to "Y" configuration, it will more than likely run better (less amps).
