Cd-Rom Motor

Not sure if it was here or another forum but some one was going to modify a cd drive motor. Getting the link would be nice.

Thanks

Yup that was it. Have a old drive that took a dive the motor still works. Time to start tinkering. If you could help that'll be great Looking at the cd-rom motor wondering how I'm going to get the can off.

Thanks for the pictures.

Art,

Have you figured out a specific "test" prop that duplicates the load & speed of your Piccolo rotor & gearing?

OmegaDot,
No I haven't. The 5x3 is pulling about 5 amps and thats what my stock Piccolo is pulling at full throttle, so been running it there just to see how it holds up. I ran it a full throttle tonight for 10 minutes straight, it ran great, never missed a beat. Checked the temps, all were warm but not hot at all. I have some more props on the way, I want to see how it will handle 6-7 amps. Anyone know where I can find pinions with 3mm bore? I'd like to find an 8,9,10, and 11 tooth. i got a tach on it tonight, 14250 RPM hot off the charger on a 2S-1500 Kokam, dropping to 14000 after it leveled off.

For mine, I originally used 1/8" 48 pitch robinson racing car pinions from the local hobby shop. They worked ok on the 3mm shaft, but the smallest they make is 12 teeth. I ended up turning the end of the shaft down to 2mm, and using Orion micro RS4 pinions also from the lhs. I don't have a lathe, but just chucked the shaft in a drill press and used a file to grind down to 2mm.

The motor you have is from a hard disk drive I suppose. CD-rom motor is the one on Art's pics.

Here's mine
