whereto buy aircraft dope

Hi i am in the process of putting on Sig Koverall on ME 109 ailerons and flaps.
On popping into my local hobby shop to buy some dope i bought 250m for $16 that works out at $64 per liter.
I was surprised at the cost!!.
I was wondering if there is in Sydney somewhere that you could buy it cheaper other then in a hobby shop as the days of that sought of pricing are over.

I used to buy it from Kellets Hobbies in Liverpool, but that was 6-7 years ago when I was in Sydney. Don't know if they still sell it. It was quite cheap then, $3-4 a tin, 200ml. Could be a lot different now. Hope that helps mate.

Reading that MSDS it's little wonder why my school grades were so low.

Hi Its "Model engines" dope,.
On the label it states 27% Acertone w/v 38% Xylene w/v.
Acertone is readily available anywhere but what is Xylene?.
As for getting high on it the only thing you would get is stoned dead not to be recommended.
Where can one get Xylene from?
This mix is a very good method of wood preparation mixed with a little talc. it makes for a quick drying sanding sealer.

You can get Xylene from bunnings.... EPP builders use it to thin down "goop". Search in the slope forums and there are many references to it.

The Bunnings in SA don't have Xylene any more . Very disappointing. You guys can still get it in Vic?
My dad told me once about the dope they made back in the day from a jam jar of acetone with a piece of perspex dissolved in it.

Hi Nitrocellulose lacquer that sounds interesting. what is it? what do you use it for?and where can you get it?.
The thing is "aircraft dope" must be available somewhere at a reasonable price i don,t mind paying a reasonable price but $60 + ltr. smacks of the old days when the hobby shops, the middle men and the wholesalers of this hobby had you over a barrel.
I can see Model design buying a 200 ltr. drum decanting it in 250ml. tins and laughing all the way to the bank.
When you think of the full size aircraft restorers putting fabric on a Tiger Moth wing i cannot see them going to Model design and paying $60 Ltr.
