Hey airmover

I realize this smaller design will not support the johnson 250 motors but.......

which plane that you have designed does and what is the difference other than wing area.

Have you experimented with speed from both set ups, ie gws 50 and johnson 250...which is a faster craft??

The 15.5 racer can handle a 250 on the nose you have to mount it right in front of the wing to maintain the CG and use the lightest batts for the job.. and thats 2cell 340kokams.. however this plane is talor made to perform with the gws50 it really is quite fun with that special small motor..and the 3030.. the 20 mono works well with the 250 to 300 size motors and can support the proper size batteries such as 850 to 1500's for the amp hungry johnson..... the 15.5 is faster with the light 340's just run time is not the best..if all you want is max speed the 15.5 will get you there..

thanks for the input airmover

kind of figured that - but never hurts to ask....

I got a bunch of these johnson 250s because everyone was buzzing about them on aprticular planes - but onone actually tried them out . . . now I have a pile of perfect paperweights!

Ill stick with the GWS motors....

Phil,

Those 250's move a Speed Wing 250 from speedwing.net around in a big hurry. I'm more than happy with my wing on a 250, and the wing is pretty tough too, I've flown mine into everything in site on purpose and have yet to break it...

If you have the 20 incher Put the 250 on it. I am sure you can figure out a way to get the CG right. Should not be too hard with the 20 inch one.

On my Winbuster bipe, I mounted the elevator servo in FRONT of the leading edge and also created a longer CF fuse to extend the motor out. That made it very easy to balance.

Elevator servo mounting ... use smallest you have on hand for best performance... simply notch a slit in the servo mounting bracket for a simple adjustable way to hold the servo with a single rubber band..yes lash it down..

Aleron servo is straight forward.. place the wing on the wing saddle and mark where the wing saddle ends and the servo bay area begains.. the servo is set up in a snug fitted slot in the wing useing a single rubber band looped around the boom crossing the servo and secureing to the hold down tab under the boom..the rubber also is enough aid in holding the aleron servo in place from raising up notice the natural curved airfoil provided by the down force of the rubber .. the servo acts as part of the wing saddle and during a crash the rubber will pop off the front tab and save the wing from harsh ending .. fly over grass and you will never see much wing dings.. and such as this 3oz plane is robust enough to absorb rough landings due to its low weight... Just do your best to fing the sweet spot when mounting the wing on the saddle to get the best position for the servo leaving about 3/16th of wood behind the servo is a must..to provide enough strength for the leading edge of the wing... I use small case Cirrus servo's .. Hobby People.com has the 4.4g clear blue cased servos on sale for 19.99.. good buy!
