High Performance 70mm fan units

Hi guys, I'm after specs on 70mm edf unit and motor combos to go as fast as possible on that size of jet. I can use up to 10S on this airframe. What are the proven combos people have been using?

Isn't that tailslide's Phase 3 F-16?

I've got two jets with HET 6904 fans, ARC 28-58-1 motors on 6s. Makes 2000W.
Clocked my F-105 at 136mph. My F-9 Cougar is a little slower but has a more draggy airframe.

My batteries are up to the task but definitely not in the hi-po class.
I imagine with some TP batts I would be pushing 150mph.

I've read that the Typhoon 1W-40 will give about the same power at slightly lower amps.

At the low end of the money spectrum you can't beat the WeMo or HET fans.

Yes it is tailslid5.0's red beast (rip) I think he did 5s on a arc 48-1 turn

My personal best was a combination of a lander shroud, a Cool 42 from gary@effluxrc and a wemo impeller on a Pulse 65c4200 5s, 60krpm 7+lbs @ 200amps on a CC180 and 5s 65c 4.5k batt. I put the set in an E-flite F-86 and made it 1/4 lap on maiden(smoked it) then glided around two laps to land, with stock gear hanging and taped on wings!(once upon a time)

If you want to put "stupid" power through a 70mm fan, IMHO, your best option is a Mach Alloy 70mm fan. Contact Gary at Efflux RC. He can help you.
Though the HET and Wemo are good and can stay together at crazy rpm's, there is the high probability of the rotor disintegrating. That is not nearly as likely with a single piece metal rotor.
No matter what over 2K watts is inherently dangerous. Safety has to come first.

-oh, also Tam at Tamjets can put together a 70mm power system to your exact specifications, but you will have to pony up the money to pay for it. What you'd get is a perfectly balanced fan in an edf housing guaranteed to stay together at a very high power level

So it seems i need to stay away from those 10-12 blade fans and go for something with 4-5 blades. The HET site recommends the 1w-40, 6904 on 6S. Crazy rpm's but i cant image it staying together for to long.
The alloy fans seem the way to go if you want something to stay intact at those rpm's.

Not 70mm but my 60mm fan setup that smoked today after 50 or so flights read 66,721 rpm and 1924 watts, it is a mix of parts though. 6s 2200 50c lipos

This is was my entry at the online race that culminated in "live" in Las Vegas.

Tailslide, Air Sally, and myself were the only participants to show up for the live race.

Fan Jets USA has the 70mm aluminum Tornado fans and ARC motors for a ballistic setup.

This is my Mach 70 powered Phase 3, F-13 "demo" jet that sat on the shelf for two years, and just recently began flying after a crash back then.

It does 160 (flat and level, UW/DW avg'd) on 6s,
The motor in it now is 3180kv. The HET 1W-40 is 3300 kv. I hope to run this motor in something soon.
Your going to have to deal with huge amps on 6s in any fan if your looking for 2KW+.
For even more more speed go with something like the Mega 16-45-1 on 7-8s (8 would be experimental). One of our customers will be running the 16-45-1HSB on 7-8 in our Composite F-20 soon.
The are also lower kv and longer Megas motors available for higher cell counts.

I've heard that even a well balanced HET rotor will not survive the 1W-40 on 6s, (I've never built that particular set up.)
So I really have no comment either way.

We don't know what the limits of the Mach rotor are. The fast I've spun one on the bench was 60250 rpm
