SS Minnow

The Construction Article for the SS Mimow from Guilligan"s Island came out in the April issue of RC Boat Modeler magazine, so I thought it would be fun to put up the photos of the display model of the Minnow currently under construction.
The model is being built per the plans, but no running gear will be added, instead, the aft deck will be detailed into the forward cabin.

All the framing is finnished and the first two coats of dope have been applied. Once the doping is done the model will be primed and filled using DuPont Sand N' Fill and the surface work finished up to prep for color.
Stay tuned, PAT

Progress is coming along nicely now. All the woodwork and sealing is done and the first coats of primer and filling is now complete. The last coat of primer will go on today, and if the weather holds the color coats will start tommorrow. With luck, by early next week the paint work will be finished and the detailing can get underway.

What's it look like with the cabin off. I assume you have fitted the motor to it before advancing to this point.

Robbie, This particular model is being built for static display, so there won't be any running gear installed. On the models built to run, a rear cabin wall is installed and the running gear placed inside the cabin. Also, the foredeck would be removeable for battery access.

Are you putting in a sound system to play the Gilligan's Island theme when you clap your hands?

Tach, Now there's an idea! I'll have to get with my customer and see what he thinks.
Actually, I'm looking out the window at the hull baking in the warm New Mexico sun. I got the second coat of white on today, and will be adding the black details next week. Keep an eye out, photos will be coming soon.

It occurs to me, Pat, that you are building two boats that require sinking at the end of their journey. And that you own one other, that was also sunk, by a shark, at the end of its voyage.
And Columbus', the flagship Santa Maria grounded on a reef on Christmas Eve 1492 and sank Christmas day.

There is definitely a strange theme here...

Mais le bateau Saint Elme peut Ítre votre seulement sauveur.

Umi, You know you're right! It never occured to me along the way, but it seems like every thing I've done so far is doomed. Funny thing, I've had the overwhelming urge to build a Titanic for years--maybe I should continue with the theme, all of these boats have worked beautifully. Maybe it's true what they say--- "only the good die young"!!!
