Ok I feel dumb asking this and it may have been covered Else Where in the previous 8 threads. How do you print out the plans after they have been downloaded from foamyfactory. Should I go out and buy a plotter

If you have access to a plotter then by all means do that. However, the easiest way is to just go to Kinkos and pay them something like $6 to print it out for you.

Otherwise, you could print the tiled version on standard paper and cut and tape the pieces together. This works very well but is rather tedious.

Personally, Kinko's works the best for me.

Humm Kinkos is a great Idea and $6.00 to boot. I didn't want to go out and buy a $5,000 Plotter for a $20.00 foamy. Thanks

David.

Why is the Yak 54 plans $12.00 @foamyfactory and the rest are free. I guess they need to make money some how. Also is it just a download like the rest? Thanks.

As for how you get them...when I did it (very soon after he announced the release), I paypaled Tim the money and very shortly afterwords, he emailed me the files. He may have since setup his sight to download them.

I have loved the look of the 3DX ever since i first saw the prototype that Tim H built a while ago. Every time i had an extra sheet i was going to build one, but i never did, lol.

I got around to building a Micro 3DX, but i never realy flew it, but a few days ago, i traded the micro 3DX and my Matrix 3D plans for a prebuilt 3DX!

I got a chance to fly with with a lipo/mega BL set-up and it was awsome. But my mega BL/battery set-up is a bit big for it.

My plan is:

8 cell 730 AAA NIMH.
EPS 350 D with a 10x4.7

This gives me 17 OZ of thrust for just 9 amps, seems like it will be easy ont he batts and still give me good power.

My BL set-up is a Mega 16/15/8 and an 8 cell 1050 KAN, it's a bit heavy for the wing area of the 3DX, but it worked supurb on my larger Matrix 3D.

Any input on this set-up?

Thanks!

Thomas
Thomas,

One setup that has worked well for a friend of mine was the 350 on the D gearing, a 12x6 prop on 2s lithium. He said he can hover for about 6 minutes into the pack and gets flight times around 10 minutes. If you don't want to go to lithium, you might be able to use 6 round cells instead. However, you might need 7 due to the extra weight. The lower current might also make those 720's usable.

A 12x6 will draw more than 10 amps, and the AAA cells preform fine at under 10 amps, over that they sag BIG time. If i stay under 10 amps, the cells will probly prefrom fine.

Thomas
Actually, use the prop chart for 7 cells, since the output (due to internal resistance) of these NIMH cells is not up to par with other cells. Then I think it says 12x6 is ok. Lots of people run 8 cells on 350/D w/ 12x6 - but you are right that those cells may not handle the current demands very well.

Somebody should add a build thread under the sticky for all of these, list setups etc so you don't have to keep all of those threads. Cause most of it is just people talking about/ commenting on designs/ partially innovating.

Yes, you will need at least 3 sheets of the 13 x 39 stuff. However, you should be able to cut enough pieces to make two Yaks. Once you make the templates, I would recommend you go ahead and cut two of everything. That way if you screw up a piece, you already have a replacement. If you don't screw something up, then you can just build two and if you totally crash one, then just move your equipment over to the second one.

This is also good in that you can hurry up and build the first one and get it flying. Then when it gets too dark to fly, you can work on making the second one pretty!
