BlitzRCWorks F-117 Stealth

I bought this 64mm EDF jet in the fall of 2010, and recently revisited it. The wingspan is 28", 41" long. This is a very light weight EPS foam airframe that seems to offer potential for fiber glassing or many other uses. It's greatest merit may be its ease to takeoff and landing, even with a mild 4000kv motor on 11.1V packs. I've installed a 5000kv motor in mine. Read on by clicking on the Comments...

In stock form if you use the recommended power system gear, the model weighs about 500g and the entire underside acts as a wing, providing good lift. The fuselage is flat black but the camera sometimes picks it up as grey. A hatch on the underside allows access to the fan and motor after the body has been glued, and a forward plastic hatch allows access to the battery compartment. I find that if one wishes to make use of the motor hatch, be sure to provide ample wire length.There is a ton of room here and with modification to the battery compartment, I suspect one could fit a 70mm fan if they felt like it, and a battery pack over 2500mAh 3S with repositioning of the EDF unit for balance. The stock plastic battery compartment provides 35mmW x 45mmH x 80mmL and may not be big enough if someone wants to use a larger battery. It can easily be cut and modified to allow a battery to be inserted slightly upward and to the rear. Atop of this battery cage is the nose gear steering mechanism. This will likely be relocated a bit. If anyone likes GPS controlled model EDF aircraft, this might be a perfect airframe for it. There is a myriad of empty cavity space on each side of the EDF or the nose to install GPS or FPV equipment. Simply move the EDF to balance it.

Shown below, I installed the Turnigy 2610 5000kv in the stock EDO V2 EDF unit. This was the motor I originally settled upon in 2010 and ironically I learned today it comes from the same manufacturer as ExceedRC's outunners and was speced for this fan. The Turnigy 2610 5000kv (known as the 75M90 from ExceedRC) is stated to provide 650g thrust at 400W (33.7A) in this fan. The Turnigy 2815 4800kv (known as the 75M95) weighs 20g more and provides 700g thrust at 420W (34.5A).

The EDO V2 fan is remarkably light weight common in the Exceed RC and Starmax 64mm fan jets. It has been shown by Don of Don's RC to withstand his 6000kv motor on 3S, when dynamically balanced. Sometimes the EDO will come stock with an inrunner motor, stated as 4300kv and works very, very hard. As tested, it is 4392kv, with a no load current of 1.68A and Rm of 0.082 Ohms. The rotor blade pitch is 79mm, has a Power Coefficient of .574 and Thrust Coefficient of .882. The included fan adapter was sized for a 2.3mm shaft and two set screws help secure it to the motor shaft. It took some test-fitting and rotating the fan adapter several times to find the spot where it ran straight and true. I verified and marked this position. I used Loctite 609 Retaining Compound in the adapter and on the shaft, but 638 or 641 will also work here. The five bladed fan was press fit onto the adapter after the compound dried, and the fan screw finishes it off.

Oops -- my der. I measured the Real Deal and found the C/G where it belongs. Just out of curiosity, though, have you had to alter yours?
