Question
What does the single digit number on GWS prop mean?

Not the diameter and pitch, example being this EP8040. But there is a single digit number under it.
Some props have a 1 and some have a 2.

Probably designates CW and CCW.

It may be the mold number.

So much for that guess...

I found two GWS 8040 props one has a 1 and one has a 2 on it.
They look identical otherwise.

My guess is something with the molds as well. I've wondered about this as well - the props themselves are identical.

None of the GWS props I have exhibit a number like that. Just the GWS and diameter/pitch. GWS on one blade, and EP1147 (for example) on the other.

I was thinking molds as well. But why only two? My collection of GWS's has more number 1's.

Paul your post brings up more questions. First i went and checked my props. I have EP series between 7-10" and also a few slow fly props. Every single one of my props has a number 1 or 2 near the trailing edge. Except for an EP-0843 that i bought from Heads Up, a reputable dealer in my opinion. Now this prop is catching my attention. First it doesnt have the single digit, also its an 0843, with a zero before the eight. It says GWS, but the font and color of the prop and size of the letting is different from these 2 other slow fly GWS's im comparing to.

I wonder is this a knock off GWS? Or maybe a really old GWS?

Other questions:
--------

What do you guys think of GWS slow fly props? I read they sucked. The few i have feel like wasted money in my hands.

GWS props are more flexy than an APC, does that matter especially when considering flying style?

Do small diameter GWS props work better than the larger diameter?

I have a bunch in my prop box.
I only used them on my first brushed/geared Slow Sticks.

IMHO They just suck too many amps unless your doing 3D.

Their slow fly props (any slow fly props) draw many amps after a point because its an undercamber, with considerable drag that puts lots of resistance to a motor not spinning for slow flying rpm.

Why not use GWS HD.. they appear to be efficient (at least in static testing) and can cope with far higher RPM (100,000rpm/diam) than the flimsy GWS RS (40-50,000rpm/diam).

The GWS Reduction Series props are generally inappropriate for most modern aircraft with modern power systems. They're called the "Reduction Series" for a darn good reason: They were originally developed for use with GWS's own brushed/geared reduction units, many of which kicked out less power at full throttle than some of our motors use with no load. My first Slow Stick came with an EPS400 motor and gearbox, and even THAT included an HD-series prop.
