F6F Hellcat, Guillows rc conversion

Hi fellow builders / pilots!

I've been flying electric RC airplanes for over a year, what a great hobby. I started to build a F6F Hellcat (Guillows kit no. 1005, 30.5" WS) way back in 2000 and never finished it. My original intent was to build it for static display. Most of the structure is complete and nothing has been covered. After reading some of the other threads here I've decided to finish the build and convert it to a flying rc model. Hoping to post my work here and get some input on my build from other experienced builders. Will post pictures if someone can school me on loading the files so they appear in correct picture to screen size ratio.. never posted pics online.

Please excuse me if I've posted in the wrong area, newbie. I'll be happy to move this discussion if so.

Here are some of my initial concerns and ideas, sorry if they've been previously covered. My current design goals are.

flying weight: less than 14 oz.
flight controls: rudder, elevator, and 2 ailerons, no flaps,
Fixed gear, no retracts (KISS philosophy)
Covering: CoverLite (to be painted after prepping with steel wool)
Motor: eFlite park series 300 outrunner
Servos: Hitec HS 55
Ohter: Thoughts of adding a 3 axis stabilizer, found one from Guardian (11 g)

Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advanced.

John

Hi John and welcome to RC Groups!

I've not personally done the F6F yet but it is known to be a good flyer (the kit #1005) straight out of the box.
It has good wing rib shape and wing angles.

I've added a link here for you to go find some of the other conversions to have a read of to get ideas and help from others who've built this one too. Scroll down to find your model number.

Posting pics.
1) They need to be in a folder on your pc
2) select "go advanced" under the reply text box
3) select the 'manage attachments' button
4) select the 'browse' button and find you folder/picture
5) double click on the picture you want to upload
6) it will be entered into a list - click the "Upload" button
7) wait a few minutes for the photo to upload (the system modifies the size of the file) and add text
8) click 'Save changes" and it is posted into the thread
