need ideas on what i can use a weight for my plane

ok my GWS pt-17 needs 2.5 ounces in the nose to make it balanced the gearbox has a nice indentation on it where i could put sometype of collar on it for weight, just i'm not sure what to use that i could mold around it, i was thinking of maybe melting lead from fishing sinkers? here is a pic of it tell me what you think
thanks jeff

Watch out for the fumes from the Lead if you go that route!!! Very poisonous/hazardous indeed. You'd be better off to just glue the lead into place using epoxy.

Jeff,

Rather than put useless weight into the nose, would it be possible to move some of the gear aft? I've placed servos in the tail before just to resolve a balance issue.......

I think the idea is to move the weight forward, not aft........ How about stuffing a bigger battery in it. If you have to add weight, make it something worthwhile.

One possible alternative, is go to a golf shop and see if they have the lead tape used for weighting golf clubs

I've never heard of lead weight tape for golf clubs before, Bob - but then again I suck at golf (they sink fast enough for me in the water hazard without the lead). My Dad has been building sets of clubs for other people, though - it's tough to keep saying "I know, I know" when he talks about CF shafts

A lot of people have gone to the local tire shop and scooped up used lead weights from wheel rims (for tire balancing) for free - they'll give them away.

i would avoid using dead weight....
there must be something you can do to lighten the tail or
something you possibly overlooked that can be moved forward.

DON'T ADD ADDITIONAL WEIGHT. In small electric powered models, saving one ounce of weight is equal to adding one cell to your battery pack. That's why two lipo's will preform like an eight cell NiMh pack. It's the weight saved!!! With a flying weight of 20 ounces, 2 1/2 ounces of extra weight is 12 1/2 percent of the models weight. Move stuff around.
