So yesterday I flew my F550 in some moderate wind in GPS mode and she was very wobbly. In calm wind she does great.
My gains are
Pitch 145% Roll% Yaw 130% Vertical !30% Attitude Gain Pitch 90% Roll 90%.
I know that gains a different for every set up but can anyone suggest a different set of gains to use for windy days.
Should the gains be adjusted up or down?

Thanks

Also I am looking for some good landing gear for my F550 so I can use a wire isolator mount with a GoPro or use a camera gimbal (not sure which one to get yet) with a Sony rx100 camera or something like it.

Is there a set of lading gear that is good for switching out camera systems on the go at the field?

A few weeks back I reconfigured my F550 to a Y6-550
Nice. How does it compare to the F and can you describe the build.

I often fly my F450 in windy conditions, hills/mountains, the 3 or 4 last videos HERE all had some serious wind. I was once with a friend with a F550 thats very similar to my F450, it was VERY wobbly, we tried to swap his DJI 1038 props for my Graupners 10", was a little bit better, but it was nowhere near the performance of the F450 in the wind, I'm afraid its just that an hexa is worse in wind than a quad

Or using smaller props, may help.

Since she's not "technically" a Phantom anymore, I guess I need to switch to the F450 thread.

Got her all together...Finally!

Specs:
Phantom board
NAZA-M
GPS
DJI Flamewheel F450 frame
DJI 30A opto ESC's
DJI Red motors
10" DJI plastic props
ATG Carbon Fiber Anti-Vib Landing gear
fpvpilot gimbal
Hero 3-in water-proof housing
ImmersionRC 600mW 5.8ghz fpv tx
Devo 10 Tx
AX1002 Rx

She fly's pretty good. With no camera or housing, in Atti mode, I'm getting about 5mins flight time out of a Ultra Pulse 2250mah 3S battery. A least that's when the red light starts blinking continuously. Not too happy with that, but I'll tinker with it. Right now she has 10" black DJI plastic props. Probably change props to Zingers or maybe (Maybe) CF's. I didn't like the black 8" DJI props or 9x5 Zingers. It seemed like I really had to pour the coal to her to get her off the ground with the black 8" and the Zinger just would NOT lift her.

I still need to do a little tweaking on the gains, but it's gusty windy here today. GPS mode is drifty. But in Atti, she fly's great. Need to do a little work on shielding the GPS better, too...I think! Right now, I have it sitting directly on top (centered). I put the stock phantom shielding material down 1st, then the GPS on top of that. I may need to put a piece of the top, too?!?!

i have wondered if I have just been missing the 550 thread... so thanks for getting it going.

i have a question for you 550 flyers.
I am into Aerial video/photos. I want a gimbaled ship for a go pro and I would like also to have a gimbal for a sony rx100 but that can be swapped when manufacturers figure out they are missing a market with a lack of gimbal support for compact cameras heavier than 200grams.

Anyway, I will be using FPV for camera angles. As you can tell my Phantom has been outgrown already.

Soooo, the debate I have is:
Should I build a 550 type quad or one of the new Gimbal equipped FPV birds like the NEX or the UAV540?

Am I better with a hex?

thanks for your input.

I too was looking for the DJI F450 owners thread, I thought for sure someone would have made it. Glad you did, now I have a place to share. I got mine about 4 weeks ago and been having a blast with it ever since. I bought the DJI kit with motors and ESC, so

DJI F450 frame
DJI 30 amp opto ESC
DJI red motors
currently running DJI 1038 carbon props
Castle BEC
KK2 1.5 FC
Spectrum DX7

I have been using it for Acro, and for AP with a gopro2 and 3. Soon I will be doing FPV. Gimbal mount is next.

ACRO MOVES side loop (0 min 57 sec)

Hudson River NY (4 min 5 sec)

And some night flying:
learning to flip and night flying with the F450 DJI (7 min 54 sec)
