Sig 4 star 60

Anyone have any experience with this plane? What's your opinion of it?

I had one for years, it was powered by a Super Tigre .90. Great low wing trainer, and was a plane that I would take to the field all the time. I ended up putting landing lights on it and would fly it at dusk when everyone else at the field would stop flying. Great fun plane, I'm sure you would enjoy! Keep us posted!

I have the 40 version. Great plane and I cannot say enough good about it. I flew mine off skis this winter and the landings are so smooth. Some people clip a bay off the wings and fly it like it's on rails. It is a pretty easy build too.

I am building one right now. They have been around forever and there is a ton of information and threads on them. I am building mine with a New O.S. 90 four stroke (from 1985). Should look awesome and perform well too. I just pulled the left wing panel off the board and started on the right. I'm taking it pretty slow (work, wife, kids, etc.) So far the build is pretty easy. This will be my second kit and I think this thing is on par with my skill/effort level. I am enjoying the build.

So it just so happens that I was asking around my club to see if anyone had a low wing plane they would part with that would be a decent third plane. I have a Foamy Electric Cessna and a Goldberg Eagle 2 already.

Our club has a lot of great guys in it and one of them made me the following offer...

They would trade me a Sig Four Star 60 with a GMS .61 Motor and and all the servos, basically a receiver ready airplane, for a new Sig Four Star 60 kit.

They one he traded me was built by another club member and sold to him. He really liked the Four Star 60, but wanted to both help me out and build his own.

I think he made me one heck of a deal. As you can see from the photo this 60 is modified with wing tips and awesome upgraded landing gear (main and tail).

The GMS .61 on it is brand spanking new.

Good luck on the plane, I think you will love it. It sounds like you got a great deal on it too.

My first glow powered plane was a 4 Star 40 I bought for 80 bucks at the swap meet in Perry, GA in March. Had to add a battery and a receiver and it was ready to fly.

Had to tweak on the motor a bit to get it running but once it ran it was great.

I lost it after just a few weeks and the best we could tell was I had the transmitter's antenna pointed to the left as I approached on final from the left. Flew into the dead spot of the antenna and it decided to land itself...in a hurry.

I traded my brother for his 4 Star 60 but I haven't put the motor and servos in it yet. I'm looking forward to it.

Great planes. Fly really easy and a ton of fun. Enjoy!

I'm surprised at the quick snap rolls I get even with full span wings. Also, it lands beautifully with no float. I think it's because I use a 14x4 prop on my old OS .70 so the prop slows the plane on idle.
