Here are some modified SimonK's firmware for our flashable ESC's. Thanks Dave A for working them out

Wow nice adding new possibilities for acro quads, would like to try it out, now I need props with bigger pitch angle, am I right?

Do I need to change anything on my multiwii sketch to fly upsidedown and 3d?

Reallllly..... I am very interested to see how this works. I've seen the videos from Warthox flying 3D with the prototype UltraESC's and that was amazing.

I'm very doubtful this will work, the normal ESC's can't perform regenerative braking so the motor will have to wind down slowly, the ultraESC guy seemed to not even promise that they will release the 3d firmware, even WITH this active braking, for this to be at all usable the motors need to be able to accelerate and deccelerate at almost instantly, something that is impossible with normal ESCs because:
* Noisy, dirty and low frequency pwm, gives poor acceleration (this is because of MCU that was never meant for precision BL control applications)
* Diode instead of active freewheeling (this not only makes regenerative braking impossible but also the efficiency of acceleration is significantly lower)

If this was so easy with just a FW hack, don't you think people would have done it ages ago?

Just look at the ultraesc accelerating and deccelerating:
Ultra ESC brakes (1 min 46 sec)

now tell if your simonk hack can do it? I also have simonk ESCs but plan to change as soon as these are available, the active freewheeling also recharges the battery when braking the speed so you get longer flight times in theory.

Veqtor,

You must be a puppet for Ultra ESC. Try it then lets talk BS.

The firware is here, people will report if its doable or not. BTW: Its already been done

But dont quote me on that, i havent done it yet. Ill try to get a better idea when i try it.

why try to reverse the motor? just use variable pitch props and make their throw reversable... your stabilization is going to be all jacked if you dont reprogram the FC to understand "reverse" or inverted. a variable pitch prop would act the same regular or inverted and be much more efficient.

Let's see.
Build new, more complex and heavier quad, or flash firmware, adjust flight settings, and change props on quad I already own.

Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I thought you said it's already been done? Who has done it? Where is this video of someone using generic ESC's with simonK doing 3D? I'm not a tool, I wouldn't pay €35 for an ESC that I don't need

ya... in that case It may be worth it... Im more of an "all in" kind of guy... If Im building something to fly a specific way, I start from scratch... Modifying an older frame is much more economical though.

Is there any video available?

I already have SimonK flashed to the ESCs on my current Acro Quad, and it would be nice to not have to wait for Hardware to become available +$$, if an improved FW could be a simple solution!
