Here is a build log for my new Playboy 110%

This model will be built for the Australian oldtimer compitition scene

I will be installing a new Rossi 45 on a macs pipe with a large venturi fitted on the intake.

This will be a duration model which requires an engine run of only 25sec's with a flight time of 7mins all up.

So i will be building this model pretty light but strong enough to handle the vertical climb.

Im hopeing i can build this to an AUW of about 4lb

So on with the build:

First up i needed to enlarge the plan to fit our wing area rule which is the model shall have a minumin wing area of 225 sq" per 0.1 cubic " of engine capacity

The fuz is built from hard hand cut 3/16th sheet cut into 3/16 SQ's with 3/32 x 3/16 gerder bracing for extra torsonal strenght.

I would think you could build it at 4 pounds. I think my 80 " Playboy Sr. weighs right at that with a 60 ignition engine and all the ignition stuff. Mine is also covered with silkspan and lots of coats of dope. Yours will be slightly bigger at 88", but I don't think that will make much difference in weight. It should fly superbly. Looking forward to the finished plane.

not much getting done ATM due to work commitments but now i will be building 2 or maybe 3.

One for my ROSSI one for my MCCOY 60 on spark and another for my cusion 3d wannabe (Mick)

Hi Allen, I use Weldbond exclusively now over the other white or yellow glues. It has the same drying time but is water resistant.

Thanks Chris. I'll have to have a look for this. I primarily use PVA in my building with a little cyno and epoxy in certain places. Another glue I would not do without is RC56 which is a canopy glue - very good. Is white in colour like PVA but more watery and dries clear with excellent adhesion. Allen

Hi Allen, around here it is found generally in the hardware stores with the other glues. Very easy to find. Some say it is the same as RC 56. It is white and does dry clear also. Flexible when dry, unlike CA. I still use my CA's and epoxies.
At the moment I have been experimenting with Beacon's Fabric Tac. It seems to be a great glue for foam. I have also used it to glue balsa to foam with excellent results.

Have been to our Mega Mitre 10 store and picked up a small bottle of Weldbond. Yes, it does seem very similar to RC56. Person in store said at NZ$11.20 it's a little more expensive than PVA but is a superior product.
Your Playboy is coming along nicely Shane. It's a model that has appealed to me too, has all the right looks. My mate has one - you can see a shaky 40 second clip of it in flight at:

It's fitted with an electric motor and flies very well. If it wasn't for the fact that I have two other projects on the 'go' I would start one myself.

Slowly getting some done on the playboys but its been over 30c here for 11 days straight with the last 5 over 35c.So its been unbearable in the shed.But been putting in some late nights.

I have made all the wing rib templates as well but not starting wing untill fuzs are done.
