Skymaster Xtreme F4 twin TJ100 EDF project

I acquired this F4 off a trade....and wanted to document some progress, lessons learned and questions in this forum.

Like all "trades" this one had plenty of surprises to be found. It was about 90% complete. Received some shipping damage and in the end required reduing just about everything.

Hoping when all is said and done on the final stages of this log she will be flying on twin TJ100 fans on 10 or 11s.

First things first.

This was the ESC install and fan install by the original owner. I guess I see what he was trying to do. I imagine he thought having the ESC in the inlets would help cool them and also reduce the length of the leads to the lipos for current damage.

In my opinion. This setup just wasn't the best choice. I decided to yank it all out and redue it.

ESC carnage

Ripped out the ESC from the inlets and starting over.

Good thing too. As the builder used some type of heat glue to secure them that had fouled the cooling vents on the ESC and FOD the inlet. Would have been trouble.

TJ 100's

Pulled the fans out to put the ESC in the proper place and make sure programs were correct on Castle Link. Confirmed with Tam timing of motor (1912) and recommended lipo is 10 or 11s.

Gear deck.

I ended up farming out the gear deck work to Burley who is better at this than me. This is pretty much the final gear layout.

This area was crushed during shipping and needed repairs to the formers and a new deck made. Also some glass and micro lite work where the fuselage had minor damages.

Lipo location

For CG. This is the area I can easily fit 4 5 s or 4 6s packs.

Right now I have 4 5s 5000 MAH packs being shipped to venom for repairs. I intend to use them at either a 10s or 11s setup if venom will swap me out to do this.

Part of the trade include 4 Venom packs NIB. 2 worked. 1 was dead. 1 dead cell. All never used. Have a RMA with Venom as I type. I hope they do me right and swap out or major discount.

Gear

Burley installd a UP3 valve for gear and retracts. Which is working quite well. Of course every line had to be replaced and redone. I'm not sure what the original builder was smoking when he put in the first lines.

Using a Jet Tronics Brake valve.

Sorry I don't. I would estimate 13-14 pounds without the fans etc. it's very light compared to some of my other jets. I expect AUW will be around 22-25 pounds

These TJ100 should move it out.

My other big twin is (ME262) is 40 pounds. So coming in 15 pounds lighter I have high expectations.

Great looking jet. It's good to see all the conversions to EDF. Thanks for putting up a build thread.
