Question
wes tek 2.4 servo modification

Hi,

Has anyone modified a Wes Tek servo by removing the 6mm pager motor and substituting a 4mm pager motor? I figure this could save about 0.6 grams for each servo. I am very tempted to do this, but I don't want to ruin an expensive servo.
If anyone has done this, please share your problems and successes (or not so successful, as the case may be).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Gerhard

i've heard it has been done but the motor overheats (needs different gear ratio).

forget it, buy some falcons!

The friction in the linear potentiometer is way to much for the 4mm motor. The motor doesnt have enough power to get to the desired position where current thrue the motor is 0. Motor is alway under current and therfore gets hot. Position is always some what off the desired position. I have both LS2.4 and LS3.0. I like them both, but I like the LS3.0 more because of it higher motor power. Wouldn't recomend you to try replacing the motor, but if you decide to do it you can always switch back as long as you don't let the motor drivers get to hot and burned them out.

Thanks, Nachman,

for your opinion. I'll probably leave it alone. it's a lot of fiddling and I would not want to have to reverse it if I tried it unsuccessfully.

regards,
Gerhard

In this same vane, would it work to change the 3.0 motor with the 2.4 motor and save some weight. I have 2ea 3.0 and don't want to pay the cost of new 2.4's.
Thanks!
Sam.

The motors on the LS2.4 are 6 x 12mm and I measured about 11 ohms. You should be ok doing that switch with any compatible motor.
If you like, I would trade with you. I'll give the 2.4 motors (original Wes) and if it works for you, you'll send me the bigger motors. I should have three of them.
