Your Preferred Connectors

Just interested to see what people's preferred connectors are at the moment ???

I had a lucky ish escape recently when I put the wrong coloured heat shrink on my battery leads and connected it the wrong way and everything worked fine. A couple of days later and I'm connecting the battery and it pushed the looser part of the bottom bit of the Dean's connector up to touch the top bit shorting it and has either blown the ESC or the motor, haven't pulled t out yet to see which yet.
I was thinking of possibly changing all my connectors maybe to XT 60's and wanted to see what other people's experiences are / if they're totally foolproof as it'll be quite a job to take all the ESC's out of every plane and re-solder new connectors to everything and the batteries.
Any input apppreciated !!

Gotta be about the most done to death topic on RCGroups
Run a search on connectors, select titles only in advanced options, and select all the electric forums except FSW: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/searc...ery=connectors

I use XT 60s but they are hard to pull apart and let go suddenly so it is possible to cause damage to your plane. A friend has drilled tiny holes in his ones and uses circlip spreading pliers to pull them apart.

HK T Plugs here too. If your having trouble connecting or disconnecting T connectors, flatten the springs with a pair of pliers to suit yourself. If your having trouble connecting them, file a taper on the end of the tabs. On XT 60s, I took a pair of pliers and gently squeezed the male connectors a bit to make them easier to install. If you go to far, you can pry them out with a jewelers screwdrive.
Hope this helps.

Gord.

+3 for the HK T connectors, I have them on everything that doesn't use JST's. Up to the 12S set up in the plane in my avatar, 16' span.

JST for small stuff, Deans on anything 10-30 Amps, XT60's on everything bigger.

With XT60's, all you need to do is sand the male connector a little until it is firm but not too loose. I also pinch the male connectors on deans with needle nose pliers to reduce the force to pull apart.
