Was looking for some setup info, a.u.w weight,batts,gearbox,prop.Id like to put this in a small bipe and was curious what other people were running.Did a basic search and found some good info.was just looking for more.Thanks Mike

I'm not flying 3D but I am going vertical with a 14T 010 in a GWS 4.x:1 GB from Aeromicro with a 12x8 prop on 3x1200 lipo.
All installed in an IFO MKIII.

The motor is lousy direct drive ( IMO ) but SUPERB with gearing.


As soon as I get a salary adjustment with back-pay(grin) I'll be joining the 3D crowd and trying that motor in a 3D plane(s).

I am running a Astro 010 10-Turn on a "C" Gearbox & 10x8 Prop & also Etec 1200-3S Lipo pack. I like the performance but no quite Vertical, I may experiment with some different props, I just put a 11x4.7 prop on & will see how that does, P-calc says it should work nice. I am a little concerned about Overamping the Etec 1200 packs & also the motor if I prop any higher.
What 3-S Lipo packs are you using & how can you use a prop as big as a 12x8?

I have the 14t in the newer micro gearbox from Astroflight I think somewhere around 3:1 ratio? Swinging an 11" prop and 10 of the 350nimh cells from Parkflyermotors, I have vertical, but don't have the ability to fly 3D.

If you can build your 3d plane to 10OZ AUW or less then the 010 14t will do fine. Propped and geared correctly the 010 can deliver just about 18oz/thrust (12x8 on a B gearbox is right around 18oz for 7.5amp). W/ a heatsink i expect you could get 20, but i haven't tried it

I just got back from the flying field with my new scratch 30" 10oz. plane. Astro 010 14T C gearbox 3:1 and 10*4,7 GWS prop.

Flies nicely, etech 1200 can take this load mithout any problem. (falls out hover)

Flew 11*4,7 as well, mure punch (true vertical), again for the etechs 1200 no problem...barely warm. If it didnt start raining i would have used the 12" gws as well. Should do nice

Tried it with gunther DD, still nice, but seen better, use this motor geared

Franck, you mention C gearbox but then 3:1 -- C is 5.33:1 in GWS terms, which gearbox are you using that is 3:1? A 12x4.7 on 3:1 would pull 10a which would probably damage the 010 14t (7.5a max) -- i run my 010 14t at around 3.8:1 and it got hot enough to feel very uncomfortable even with a heatsink running a 12x6 off of it at that ratio... 11x8 is slightly warm though and a 10x8 is not even noticeable

gws makes the 3.22 and 3.75; the 3.75:1 is (A), 3.22 is 1S -- do you know which lettering is engraved onto the spur gear? curiosity

Hi Mike,
Looks like there is some good info in this thread from others, but in case you're still collecting info,
I'm using a GWS orange 12x8 on the 010 14T, with the aeromicro 4.43:1 gearbox.
With 3x1200 lipoly there is no problem with overheating or over-amping - in fact it looks like I could probably go to a 13x6 or 13x7 maybe.
I haven't weighed my IFO but it is probably around 10-12 oz.

You know I can't remember where I got the lipolys - they were on sale as single cells.
I think they will take 6C; they are not Super-High output., but for under $30 I couldn't beat it.
It's my first lipoly pack and I'm going to see how I like working with it.
