I run one of those in a 56" Yak, it allows for easy balancing, and the ability to cruse at about 45% throttle (it's not lacking for power in any way). To me, it's just right, though the airframe is 4" bigger than your extra, so not too sure if it would be a good fit or not.
What about a .55?

I thought about it, but is it really that much more power than 46.

Yeah the 55 is.
Now the secert to 3D flight is wing loading. Adding a heavier motor can increase the wing loading, possibly making the plane snap happy.
While hovering is only 1 aspect of 3D ,harriers, walls, waterfalls and the like need a plane that doesn't snap when you pull alot of elevator.
I can put a 91 on a 46 size mustang and it will hover, but thats it. Anytime you pull that nose up she's gonna snap.
A good 3D plane will remain stable in a deep stall. After all thats what 3D is, thrust vectoring in a deep stall.
That Extra 260 needs 20 oz per sq ft or less for good 3d flight

Not sure what .46 you have, but you might try a Tower muffler or make a mousse can pipe. They are all inexpensive, very light, and will give your engine a nice power boost.
