HK50A esc?

morning all

i have just bought a replacement esc for my bixler as it was not arming the motor - so i thought it would be a perfect time to upgrade my motor an esc.

i bought one of these

and also one of these

but, just noticed the esc will require a power supply

my old esc just got its power from the receiver. (this one)

can anyone explain what i need please

thanks

that ESC plugs into your throttle channel on the receiver. you then plug your main lipo on the ESC so your motor only gets power from your main lipo. you will need an extra battery pack to power the receiver and all the servos but you have to watch the voltage its usually 6V max. it is a good system to have two separate packs because if you run out of power in your main lipo you will still have control of your plane as there is an external power source. many larger models work on this system

you can either get a different ESC (one with the bec built in)
OR get a separate BEC (what is designed to go along with the ESC you purchased)

no need to use 2 lipos.

Thats correct. Just make sure the motor is spinning in the right direction. If not just change a wire from the esc to the motor. In other words swap wires. That will change the direction the motor spins.

Solder the two bare wires on the ubec to the batt. connector when you solder it to the ESC. You can plug the ubec into any of the open connectors on the rcvr. Of course the ESC plugs into the throttle channel of the rcvr.
Hope this helps

Gord.

Might be worth noting that your ESC is way overkill. This isn't a bad thing in itself, but you're paying a rather significant weight penalty with the oversized ESC and that BEC, not to mention the extra "stuff" adding potential failure points to your system. You could easily shed a lotta grams with this ESC, which has its own built-in BEC and is more than suitable for your motor.
