It was my charger many years ago. It probably still works too.

So I went to race my neighbor and his traxxas rustler and my motor went kaput. But seeing how fast his rustler is, he would have easily beaten me anyhow.

Drop in one of the Castle 5700 like I have and he won't be faster anymore... The Rustler is fast, but not as fast as a touring car running the same batteries.

He's running the Velineon brushless 3500 motor in his Rustler, plus the added weight of a car GPS (yes, he rigged a car GPS inside his rustler.. to measure top speed!)

He has both a 5700 and a 7700 combo for sale, $120 shipped. Not a bad price from what I have seen. Whatcha think?

I haven't purchased anything yet.. but my plan is to buy this combo from this guy, either the 5700 or 7700 depending on what you think, and a 3S lipo (3000+mah?) & charger.

I'm just afraid of snapping the drive belt with all this crazy brushless power.

I picked up a few new gears.. I have now 18t, 23t, 26t, 31t, with my 90t spur, so I can fine tune my setup.

Just ordered the foam bumper replacement, and as soon as I figure out what belt I need, I'll grab a spare one as well.

the 5700 is what I run in mine, works very well.. I haven't had he need for the 7700 because you can't run 3S with it. The only belt I snapped was from running on an unprepped ground and picked up a stone or twig and snapped the rear belt. No issues otherwise. The belts are easy to get as they are the same as the sprint2 I believe. $120 for a new SV2 isn't bad, but the SV3 no has a built in fan from castle for the esc. In the car its not a big deal, in anything else it is.. but the new ones are all 4 pole.

Pulled the trigger on a 5700 + SV3 combo. $110 shipped.

It'l have to do its best with my NIMH battery for a few weeks, though, until I have the spare cash to pick up a LIPO charger and battery.

What gearing are you running?

I believe 25/90 but I will check when I get home from work. I have the room to gear higher for more speed, just too lazy to bother and the car runs great as it is.

Sounds good. I just saw a good price on 4000mah 3s 30c lipo.so I'll be picking that up to go with the setup.

I just don't know if the motor I'm getting with this combo is 2p or 4p.

You are getting a 1406 4 pole 5700 with a v2 system, not the v3.. thats why is was so much cheaper, but in a touring car you don't need the fan anyway. other than that they are the same. I don't think think castle makes a 2 pole anymore so these are not really old stock. I just checked my gearing and I am running the stock spur gear and a 28 pinion. I can got higher on the pinion, but just haven't bothered to change it. I think the stock spur is a 90.
I checked the castle website on running the 3S lipo and it will work fine, however you will be pushing the car way past what it was designed for. The belts will probably break often and tire wear will quickly become an issue. If you control your throttle you will be fine buit lets face it, speed is addictive.. Also, do you know the battery will fit. Mine is very tight with a good 5000mah 2s.. a 3S will most likely hit the belts or the upper chassis. Remember these were designed for stick packs originally they aren't that big..

Yeah I've decided to go with 2s, and even then from my measurements I probably can't go bigger than 4000mah without hitting the belt..height wise there is little room to work with. The motor is definitely 4p.

Worst case if the car really can't handle the juice, I'll look for a roller that I can transfer the electronics into, and it won't be wasted. Although I wonder if any on road is designed with such power in mind.

you will be fine with a 2s battery. I wouldn't worry about that. The motor is a bit overkill for the car, but its not going to be any faster than a 2pole 5700. It will have more torque, but you can't make use of it in such a lightweight car. Just have fun with it.. the car will survive.
