Decent 6s 70mm motors out there??

Hey guys, im another lucky Banana hobby victim and left with a twin 70mm f18. its a gorgeous plane, and i REALLY want to fly it. After some research, both BH and HK only have one 70mm motor that will handle 6s, and theyre both out of stock. What else is out there? I dont mind spending a little on them, but dont want to be 300-400 dollars into them, just for the other crappy stuff to fail (fingers crossed that doesnt happen).

So whats available?

Heres what HK has, unfortunately theyre backordered.

Heres what happened to my f18, which sucks because its VERY good looking, and the motors look top notch, i just got a lemon

The HET 2W-25 is a good low amp, 6s motor at 2725KV
http://www.effluxrc.com/HET-2W-25-Motor-HET2W25.htm

The ARC 28-58-1 is a high powered 5s-6s (with throttle management) motor at 3180kv.
http://www.effluxrc.com/ARC-28-58-1-...8-58-1-4mm.htm

Both of these motors are reasonabley priced for the high quality motors they are well known to be.

They should be used with an EDF that can handle 1100-2000 watts respectively

All our motors are on sale at 10% off for RCGer's this weekend. Please PM or email me for a Paypal invoice reflecting the 10% discount.
(The sale is not on the website)

Gary, you forgot that the 36-65-1 produces the most power to weight on 6s of any other motors in the same size and class and is about the best 6s motor for a 90mm fan out there.

Dang Tom, I was about to go to bed!

He's looking for a 70mm motor. (28-29mm)

But since you mentioned the ARC 36-65-1 (36mm) motors for 90mm EDF's......They will be back in stock next week. (along with a few other ARCs)

...........

@ Eeeeky20,

The Hobby king motor to posted a link for is 29mm. I didn't check the edf for your jet, but many 70mm EDFs will only take a 28mm inrunner motor.
So take of note the dia when looking for a motor.

We have the Velocity WM 400mkII EDF that will accept a 29mm motor.
Another option you have, is that some folks llike to run an out runner motor with an adaptor to fit the EDF housing also.

Email me if you want, and Ill get you fixed up with something that will work well for you.

Tell me what batteries you're using, what fans and what esc's you're using and I will tell you your options

I've done additional testing that hasn't been posted. I suppose I should update the thread.

E-flite BL-32 does very well for it's weight. And can go 7 cell with a heat sink if needed.

More expensive than some...But really hard to kill.

Is this the F-18 with a single 6s pack for both motors? if so you'd be better off with two separate 4s-5s systems.
A link to the plane would be helpful.

If you do go with a hot rod motor like the ARC 28-58-1 (which is an awesome motor) you will have to upgrade the fans and speed controller. $$$$$$

The stock fans and motors should hold up well enough to a solid 4s 3300-3500kv motor.

OMG! I hate BH!!! Grrrr. Try to search your plane. Enter "twin 70mm FA-18 jet" (It's suggestion) And it comes up with 789 things that have nothing to do with anything!
No wonder I never bought any thing from those idiots!!

Im on my phone at the moment. Yes this plane runs one 6s pack for both motors. Its the banana hobby twin 70mm. I found that hk has some nice 2200 kv 70mm fan units good for 6s. Ill probably get them. I already have new 100a. Escs, just need fans. Its only money right?

In the future. Buy your airframe at BH if you wish...But get your internals somewhere else! Just saying!

I don't think you'll be disappointed with a pair of 2w-25 motors. I run just one in a WeMo fan inside a HET F16 and it's properly rapid. Make sure your ESCs can handle it, though.

I thought so.
One of the guys in our groups bought this plane. I maidened it for him on the one battery. 4000mAh I think.
Flew great and good power. But two minutes in, the battery ran dry and it fell out of the sky. Was flying half throttle after the first turn.

Not too much damaged. Bungled one LG and broke the nose off clean. It went back together with no trouble.

What an insane way to power a twin 70mm.
It would need an 8000mAh battery at minimum to feed those two fans for any decent flight time.

Your spinning your wheels if you don't split the power systems up completely.
It only weighs 6 lbs. Two 700-900 watt 4s systems would do great in this bird on 4000mAh packs (x2).

Good luck.

-I did a little research to help you out. It looks like the fan units you have are 6-bladed ones:
http://www.toysonics.com/lx-model-70...-fan-unit.html
I've actually tested these with a HET 2W-30 on 2 3S 2200 mah packs. you'll get 50-54 amps on a fully charged 6S pack with the 2W-30. It really depends on the battery.
Two other options are the ARC 28-47-2 (2170kv) and Mega 16-30-2 (2130kv). These will put out slightly less power, but will be just shy of 50amps. I did have the ARC 28-47-2 burn up a winding at about 50 amps, but maybe I got one that was defective. I did a lot of testing with the ARC, so it didn't burn up out of the box.
The E-flite BL-32 will work but it's 2 oz. heavier than the motors I mentioned above. So that's 4 oz. extra weight for the pair.
The HET 2W-25 will be in the 60+amp range- if you use the 6-blade fans. To use your 50 amp esc's that came with the plane, you'd have to get 2 mini-fans, which have less load.
One other thing I should mention, and I apologize it you already know. You should be using a 5000mah 6S pack as the combined amps will be near 100. this will give you 4-5 min. flying time.
Any hotter kv motors will bump up the amps, and you'll either need to get bigger batteries or accept shorter flight times.
I found the link to the airplane (I think this is what you have):
http://www.lxhm.us/En/Product/detail/id/5.html

Hope this helps, JMHO,

Terry

My fans are actually 5 bladed, in an alu housing. Quite spendy from Bh for the direct replacements. The esc's that came with are 80A, and i replaced them with 100A.
