It's a metal nut but it looks like it has some type of rubber or plastic on the inside.

The plastic or rubber you see, is from it being a Nylon nut. So you don't need loctite.

The nylon needs to be in good condition, or it won't do much to hold the nut.

I've heard the nylon wears after about 10 tightening & loosenings, so if you just threadlock the metal part of the nut you'll never lose it. The nylon nuts are great though for changing blades at the field, but usually if you ruin your blades there's probably other repairs needed too like a main shaft. Anyway I personally just threadlock mine on. But also the threadlocker probably isn't great for the nylon.
