Cool my buddy has been bugging me to get into combat its all fun but I dont want to go glow or spend big bucks so I will give this a go.

Any idea on approximate flight times? Outdoors

I use a DX6i and elevon is an easy setting but you can lso use a V-tail splitter. They work great also.

The stock DX6i elevon setting is flawed. The problems are addressed in this thread and the fix for it is linked in the first post.

Didn't know that.......I've used the Dx6i -- set on elevon -- with the F-27Q and the Baby Stryker for a long time.

No problems.

For the UM Stryker, you do have to do a simple plug swap at the RX:

No, read the thread I linked to in my post. When the stock elevon setup is used, the elevon travel is not only limited, but is not symmetrical from side to side. If you program your DX6i per the instructions in that thread, you will have full elevon travel and that travel will be the same on both sides.
You may not have noticed the limited travel with your Strykers because they are made to be flown fast, and fast planes don't need much travel on their control surfaces.
A plane like the "Crack Wing" used for combat usually needs max throw on the control surfaces. This is where the difference between the stock and the elevon mix I linked to is very apparent.

I haven't had problems with the elevon setup on my DX6i. I've made several Dollar Tree foam wings and it works fine. Its a wing setup using the TH power combo I had left over from my Edge build. I ordered two combos. Now both the Edge and the wing are still flying great. Sure I had to do a little travel adjustment but no big deal.
