I'm hoping that by that time, the technology will have advanced so that I can get a Steve Austin eye, with selectable Night Vision, thermal imaging, and a targeting reticle that will sync with the artificial shoulder I'll be getting in the next 20 years.
Ouch. That does make specking-out sorta iffy. They can work miracles, though, so be patient. In the meantime, build, and make a small shrine to Dr. Mark Drela...

Now, if only they'd make an IR Doppler Vario eye that spots thermals...

This is what happens when a prop explodes mid flight. Notice the huge jump in RMP followed by dropping to zero. My reaction time looks to be about a second.

That is wicked. My wing is a 1999-vintage Zagi slope glider, converted to electric with a Little Screamer and a 1200mAh 3S pack. Never clocked, but it's zippy...

That thing scares the out of me to this day. I have a 200+ mph one sitting here to build just need to work up the courage to do it.

I imagine that the First Flight Syndrome on a plane like that is horrendous...

That's why I'm hoping for the Thermal Imaging option on the Steve Austin eye!

That's a real possibility. There's a woman researcher/doctor at Cornell who has figured out the encoding that goes on in the eye. She bypassed all the nerves that die in blind people and fed direct to a chip implant that decodes it and passes it to the brain in signals the brain understands. With something like that it might only require a filter and someone could see infrared.

More real than just a possibility. A CCD (silicon camera chip) has inherent sensitivity in the Infrared end of the spectrum and cameras have a built-in filter to exclude IR. It would be great to see the air in addition to reading the air...
