How would this geared BL motor work out for a 1s conversion for the PZ spitfire/p40?

Few inrunners utilize both 2s and 1s, this is the only one that fits these small gearbox' we like to use, that says something for itself, fun to play with in the least - 'Ultimate' is best case scenario.

we will figure a few good uses for this motor, its too unique not to try

I dont know that we can say that just yet....

We do know that with a 5x3 the results are disappointing, its not so good, but its also not really loaded... I'm still waiting to hear back from someone who has tried it with a 5x4.3 or 6x4....

I wouldn't consider it a huge success and an ultimate conversion to put a 6 inch prop and make the landing gear unusable.

the stock prop is 5 inches, so with a 6 inch you only lose 1/2inch of prop clearance, I fly my p-51 sans-gear anyway, so prop size isn't much of a consideration... even with wheels. if it means not having to live with dwindling power until ultimate replacement of a brushed motor , its totally worth it IMO... it may also be that a 5x4.7 will be all that needed....

How about the 5.25 x 3.5 prop from the UMX Gee Bee? It doesn't work worth a damn on the Gee Bee with its 3000Kv 180 (loads the motor down too much & tends to trigger the ESC's OCP at WOT on a fresh pack), but it may be worth a try on this setup if a person happens to have one sitting around.

Not a snowballs chance in h-e-double-hockey-sticks that a 6" prop will fit on my um spitfire with the wheels on. A quick measurement shows its at least 1/4" too much still. I almost never fly with the lg attached but I want the option to fly with them if I feel like it.

A 6" prop won't work on any of the 1s UMs for ROG flying. The Gee Bee is the only UMX plane that even has enough ground-clearance for a 6" prop. I'm an ROG addict, and I love doing scale landings and shooting touch & goes. I wouldn't want to be stuck with hand-launching and belly-landings, either.

Guys I think we have already found the answer!

The AP05 5000kV 1s outrunner, it ticks all the boxes, well almost all of them!

1. its 1s
2. it produces 70-90g of thrust with a 5030, and thats not speculation either
3. will work with eflite props, so scale looking props and enough ground clearance for LG is very possible
4. weighs about the same as the stock gearboxed brushed motor

Only downside it that you will need to add a motor mount, but that wouldnt be any more difficult than building your own gearbox or trying to make an aftermarket gearboxed BL motor fit in.

Micronradiocontrol sells both the The AP05 5000kV and mounts for them.

Heres their thrust data for both the AP05 3000 & 5000kV:

3000Kv:
Prop Volts Current Thrust
4x2.5 3.5V 0.9A 32g
4x2.5 7V 2.2A 87g
5x3 3.5V 1.2A 45g
5x3 7V 2.8A 110g

5000Kv:
Prop Volts Current Thrust
5x3 3.7V 4.5A 90g

With the 5000k AP05, wouldn't we see reduced flight times on the "normal" 160mah batteries? I wonder what the trade off would be between a 2s with a smaller pack throttled back some, and a larger 1s pack? I seems like it is 6 of one, half dozen of the other with the deciding factor being what equipment (chargers, batteries) you already have...

and there are people compensating for that by using 240mah and 300mah batteries. This is also something you need to do with the SX motor upgrades. You can fit MA 190mah batteries into the standard Spitfire battery slot for example
