Aeroworks Edge 540T?? E-Conversion??

I've searched on this plane and I get two responses back so I figure that either one, it's not been converted or two those that have done it have not told us about it yet.

I was just wondering what Hacker would do this plane justice?

http://www.aero-works.net/planes/40edge540t/index.html

That's the one that I'm looking at, it's the smallest of the line that they sell.
Specs:

WING SPAN 56"
WING AREA 609 SQ. IN.
LENGTH 53"
WEIGHT 5.5 to 6 lbs.
ENGINE .40 to .50 CC.
RADIO 4 CHANNELS

They say 5.5-6lb wet version. I would do it with a Hacker and Lipo's... I'm looking for some ideas on what power train to use or that would be good for this.

Thanks,
Bill K.

Merry Christmas

Toyse,

Thanks for the links. I'm looking into both of them.

If the weight can be kept down to around 6lbs, it should fly great on a B50-13S, 6.7:1, 15x10APCe, and a 5s3p Lipo pack. I have an EZ Extra that's the same size and about the same weight that I will setup with this config.

An alternate motor is the B50-10l, 5.2 with the same prop and batteries.

Kyle,

If the weight should push higher, say up to 6.5 what would be needed then? My goal of course would be to build it as light as possible. Also with some of the new Tanic cells, could I get away with a 5s2p and save purchasing 5 extra cells for now? That would also help keep the weight down I would think...? They say that a 5s2p pack will take 52 amps?

http://www.tanicpacks.com/BatteryListing.htm

Thanks,
Bill K.

I've flown my Venus with 16 sub-Cs at 6lb 10oz and it flew fine so I think you'll be ok. Don't know anything about tanic cells. This config will be drawing high 40's to low 50's peak static.

Good luck.

the Tanic cells are bigger so:

5s3p thunderpower = 580gr

5s2p tanic = 520 gr without the weight of the 13 gauge wires.

So I don't think you get that much of a weight savings. They are producing more amps because the cells are larger.

I will be around 110 oz with round cells on my Edge. I am updating the thread now with some new photos. My PC has been giving me trouble.

Its not the greatest quality ARF, but I looks nice in person. BTW: The weight on the instructions and specs is wrong. The box has been corrected. With glow it will be 6 pounds. To me the Pacific will be easier to convert, but I already own this one. On the Pacific Edge, the wing does nto go through the fuse, it uses a Tube joiner giving a lot more room inside.

Mine should be ready for flight in the next week or so as soon as I find a prop adapter and finish the servo install and battery tray.

I use a B50 10L 5.2:1, 14x10 and 5s4p TP 7.8 in my Kyosho Spitfire (6lbs 10oz) and I've measured about 52 amps static. A 15x10 would put you close to or over 60 amps. Is that still OK or would a B50 11L be a better choice? I don't seem to get anything more out of my setup past 3/4 throttle in the static test or when flying.

If the 13s Is not enough in my Edge, I will swipe Kelvins 10L when he is not looking...

If I were buying a motor for the plane, I would buy the 10L

Thanks for the updates, I'm looking forward to your other updates on the other thread. I'll give that other 540 another look too.

I happened to be "lurking" tonight and saw this thread.

Here is a link to the Aero-Works Edge 540T I did for Hacker USA. It actually was the airframe that was used to "prove out" the 30 cell nicad systems that ultimately became the C50 series. It also saw many Lipo powered flights. The airframe was heavier than I liked but we just added more power. The plane survived 2 inflight fires and a severe crash that Frank Wallace (FBW4) has on video somewhere. As far as I know the plane was sold and is still out there somewhere.

Edge540T

This is one of my favorite pics I took of it.

Dave,

10 lbs?? Wow, that's HEAVY... thanks for the link, there is another thread running on this plane and a conversion too. Have you seen it? Did they get the other ARF's lighter or is this one a bigger model than the 40 size?

If that is the one that was at MWE that Jason Schulman was flying, its the 60/90 size.

The wing on the 40 size is a one piece wing that mounts through the fuselage..
