Let us know about shipping from Arthobby, they make some cool looking stuff, it may end up being damn close to the price of the Pegasus (remembering the free shipping from wattsup).

I can only speak from the Preludes quality (have had a few topmodel planes though), id imagine a lot of it applies to the pegasus. The wing construction is beautiful, but the fuselage layup is pretty messy, its not rubbish but isnt pretty workmanship.

Since the pegasus looks to have a carbon shaft tail boom, its probably better quality than the avia/prelude
Hahah, your Stryker is officially banned from the next Ampfest. OK maybe if you triple the power, now there's a challenge

I've also looked into getting an uncovered model from Topmodel. 'Cause I like building stuff

Hmmmm: "an uncovered model from Topmodel". ... that just sounds dodgy....

Pegasus

The quality of the kit is excellent. I loved mine but it was too small at 2M for my old eyes. The only small thing I fly now is my old faithful Radian, (NOT the Pro), but I do prefer my 3 and 4M models for the sheer grace and performance. I particularly like the AVAs and the Oculus e. The latter is a builders kit by M and M Glidertech of California.Don't know what it would cost to ship to NZ, but it is a great flyer.

They do look really nice. I wonder what the shipping price to NZ is like?
Shipping to NZ is (in USD):

for 1.2M ~$47.00
for 1.7M - 2M ~$55.00
for 2.5M - 2.7M ~ $ 67.00

They told me they can ship 2 of the smaller to mid sized (1.2 or 1.7) together for the same shipping price.... which is not bad.

I'm getting quite interested in these, because they are basically RTF but appear to perform really well in the lighter conditions. The 1.7 appeals as a portable beastie as well. Wing loading is ~7.5oz....

This seems well priced as well, and looks like it could come in under 7oz wing loading ...

No information as to availability however. Shipping seems expensive from Esprit to NZ as well...

Great reviews though.

I've pulled the trigger on a Culex F5J LMR as listed above. Esprit were out of stock and I found one cheaper elsewhere. What sold it for me?
  • 2 piece wing (easy to transport)
  • Very light wing loading, possible to get a RTF weight of 560g for a wing loading in the 6oz range!
  • Reviews are good and it appears to be pretty good at doing exactly what I want, i.e. use light lift

Nice one, will be interesting to compare it to the not so budget PCM Taser.

Figured out a power system yet? Its been awhile since I played with 50gram motors, it took some thinking for most watts in smallest space with least weight

Where did you get one from?

They all recommend 28 mm outrunners, I have a Turdigy:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=5690

Which actually is half decent, getting ~75% efficiency. Althought 70g, so slightly heavier but I'm probably going to ditch the rudder servo and save 15g.

Failing that I reckon this one a good option:
http://www.wattsup.co.nz/catalog/pro...oducts_id=4948

Got the glider from here:
http://www.modellhobby.de/e-vendo.ph...nb_e&a=catalog

I'm going to throw a couple of D47's in the wings and use a HS-55's for the elevator.

The Culex arrived - I took a quick peek in the box and overall it's quite impressive for the price! The only flaws I've seen do far are an average fuse (nicely moulded halves with tow reinforcement at the openings) but the join could be better.

Also the firewall appears to have a big blob of glue on the inside which will for sure need to be removed before I can mount the motor.

The wings and tail are perfectly covered. The tai lboom is super light, but remember this model is designed for ~150 watts for an AUW of ~550g, so no issues there.

I'll post up some photos as I put it together.

Finally got around to snapping some photos.... It's mostly completed. All I need to do it install the servo extensions and fit the spinner.

Overall, quite a nice bird! AUW so far is 660g, not too bad for a 2M sailplane, so I expect it to be flying at say 680-690g.

The canopy was originally blue - but it looked strange, kind of clashed with the yellow wings and the red tail, so I painted it yellow.

Looks good man, is there a tube in the wing supporting the servo wires?
