today took the cub out, and 1st bomb drop of the day, i hit the circle in the middle of the runway with the Nerf bomb, from about 400 ft. wow...

also took the fleet Bipe out for a walk, i'm getting better.

here is the beginnings of the new banner, i could not find the netting you specified, so i am using screen door screen, after i do the sewing, i will cut out some letters from shelf paper and try to stick them on ( if that don't work i will sew them) i might have it ready to test this Sunday...

I'm not sure you need the full screen with all the extra drag. I think some strips of screen, the length of the banner, attached to the top and bottom trailing edge of the banner. As I posted earlier, full scale tow pilots use clear strips trailing the banner to get it to pull without all the flopping and waving.

well, here is the new banner short lettering. Tomorrow i will take her out and fly it. i did not add batons or lettering yet, because I want to see how it fly's .. i will let you all know how it goes..

towed the banner today, and it flew good with out flapping to much.. i think i got a winner, 35 feet, and it did ok.

for the new banner, i used the same set up as the sheet banner, a wood dowel sewed into the leading edge, with SS leader cable top and bottom connected to a flat washer, then i just clip the tow line to the washer and away she goes. Next i will attach some letters.

i tow my banners and drop bombs with my 1/4 scale SIG piper cub with a Zenoah G38, for which has enough power to pull things around.. although at full throttle. a DLE 30 has more power, so my next tow plane i might consider the DLE 30.

my CUB is my beater plane, it is just a blast to fly around, on and off the runway.

thanks for the thread, I am looking to tow a smaller banner about 3-4 feet.

I am curious, about how much weight do you suggest I add to the bottom?

i started off using a 4oz weight, then for my last banner i used 2oz weight, then for stability it hangs 2 feet below the bottom of the bridle ( leading edge) via a cable. this arrangement seems to work good. when i attached it directly to the bottom of the banner, it seemed to fly just a little off to one side. the 2 foot leader helps with this.

nice banner kaveman, i see you have tails on it, i tried them, however they just got all tangled up, so then i went to the bamitten shuttle cocks, and last week end, they fell off.. also, how long is your banner? my first is 23 feet, and my new one is 35 feet.

today i did some more test flying , i am trying to get the lift off down, i have been having pretty good success with laying it out backwards, and pulling it off the ground. As for the tail, i have given up on doing anything about the flapping, ( with the sheet banner). i believe the trick will end up being the screen banner.. maybe next week, i will find the time to attach lettering??

funny note: our club Pres. suggested i paint my CUB John Deer green, because its such a beast..
