Mig 7 Slopie

Ok so I thought I need to build something. The Correx Mig 7 looked appealing, but maybe not robust enough for some sloping fun (=combat)

I have some Isoboard lying around, maybe this can work instead of Correx.

First have to build a hotwire cutting rig..

Templates made and cutting bow

Used some alumimium guttering sheet and made templates.

Hot wire cutter is ready to cut the wings, but lets make the fuselage first...

Basic shaped fuselage

Took two 50mm thick isoboard sheets and stuck them together with UHU Por.
Made a roughly rectangular block of 100 x 700 x 250mm foam.

Stuck templates on side and top and used hotwire jigsaw to cut rough shape.

Now some 100 grit sandpaper, some elbow grease and voila!!!!

Wings....

Made some templates from alumunium gutter sheet and cut a set of wings using the hotwire bow. Added about 2 degrees washout to the tips. The ends of the wings were a little ribbed due to being tapered so much, but with a bit of sanding it came out fine.

Prepping wings and joining..

I decided to cut the wing trailing edges and put a full length aileron in as this part felt weak. The edge was lined with some balsa sheet that I had lying around and cut and sanded to shape.

Joining the wings

Used the bow to cut angles on the roots of both wings, sanded a bit and then used some thick CA and kicker and joined the wings.

Wings tape

Used some fibre tape and taped the whole wing. This is now as stiff as a surfboard - no spar needed!

Mounted the servos using some hot glue straight onto the tape. Cut wings shape into fuselage bottom and test fitted. Hollowed out part of the fuse so that servos have free movement.

Cut the tailplane with my hotwire jigsaw.

Starting to look like a plane. Tailplane and fin cut from 3mm correx and stiffened with sosatie sticks...

Not happy with the way the servos sit on the wing - too close to the edge of the plane.

Cool build!

Would be nice in light conditions.

P.S. What on earth did you use the hammer for.....and the cake....working on your daughter's birthday?

Ready for maiden!!

First used some popsicle sticks to form a guide for the elevator control wire.

Covered fuselage with fibre tape and then covered with packaging tape. No fancy colour scheme for now - just high visibility for the maiden.

Took photos of the model...

Basic specs as follows:
840 grams
1200mm wingspan
