Need a Bad A$$ Engine set up for Ultra Stck 40

So there seems to be a who has the fastest 40 Ultra Stick at my Field. I'm thinking of picking up a Hangar 9 and putting a OS 55AX on it with a nice pipe. I understand a specific kind of Muffler can make a BIG difference. Any other ideas of a power choice or Tune Pipe would be appreciated. Thanks

A Jett .50 or a Jett SJ .60 LX if you want it so no one will ever be faster than your plane.
Also build a new wing with more thin in height wing ribs so the wing is thinner too.

I don't think any company makes "bad a$$" engines

Dale,

Your Ultra Stick is not designed to be a fast plane!

Merely flying at full-throttle and full speed can get the control surfaces into a flutter.
Even your OS.55AX is overpowering. A normal .46 engine can get it to climb vertically.

The Jett engines that Earl suggested belong in a GP Patriot, in a Jackal, or in another fast model; and will bring them over 125 mph.
In your Ultra Stick you will probably not see more than 80.

Going fast not only means a 'bad a$$' engine; it also means a suitably streamlined plane.
Or it is just a 'turtle race', with ailerons/elevators/flaps/rudders flying off...

I use the Rossi .45 on my Midwest stick. Also the Mac's Header and pipe. ACP props like 10/7 or 11/6 work good for speed and vertical flight. Watch out for flutter on those down wind dives. If you can find a Quickie 500 they fly great and are a lot faster than the stick.

To me, a BADA$$ engine will go from just over stall speed to unlimited vertical W/a pull on the right stick while pushing the left stick all the way forward.

Power, not speed.

Would this muffler give more performance than the stock muff on a 55ax ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Macs-Product...item53f15f1ea8

Dale,

It will give you a small power gain. This item will give you a much greater gain (1,000-2,000 RPM on most props)...

But since I have already established that your plane has enough power as it is, both would be a waste of your hard-earned cash...

It is only money, you can always get more of that?. It is pretty expensive, as much as some motors, but it won't wear out I guess.

He could also go for an Evolution .60NX engine and use the Evolution tuned muffler for it (Dar Zeelon's link referenced it) and that would be getting some good performance for the plane then. That is the same combination they suggest for the Hangar 9 Jackal Speed plane too.

The OS 55AXC is a nice engine, but it isn't really a performance engine. OS has tuned it more for turning bigger props more quietly. But it does run OK and there is some performance gain with other mufflers or tuned pipes that one can get out of it. But some other engines perform much better though.

There's a guy at the field that scratch builds Planes similar to the Ultra stik but built a lot stronger and the wing is thinner. Most of his have 55's on them I'm trying to talk him into building one for me.

Going fast...

Dale,

If you're serious about going fast, with something that resembles your Ultra Stick, Get yourself a Viper 500.

Than, you can put a bad a$$ engine in it too...

Do they make one with a normal tail as where I can put a tail wheel on it ? I like the Pylon racer style. I just don't like the dinky wheels and the tail skid. I would put normal wheels on it and a tail wheel. .

Yes you can put a tail wheel on it, but it doesn't use a rudder servo though. The wheels and skid reduce aerodynamic drag. You could put on bigger wheels if you like too. Actually the racing wheels are about 2.25 inches in diameter and very thin. But thin works good off of thick grass runways too.

Since you glue the tail on, you could put on a conventional tail if you like. The V-tail was another way to reduce drag too.

Actually they do sell some Quickie 500 planes with conventional tails on them.
